You will be given a handout in class on Monday called "Bad Listening Habits" you can also find it in down loadable form under the Business Communication Files. You need to read the article about bad listening habits and listening actively. Then on the 2nd page in the gray box are instructions for Exercise 3. The six points they are referring to are "Criticizing the Speaker", "Interrupting the Speaker"...
For your post type the 6 habits and then type either yes, no, or sometimes next to it. Finally write a 100-200 word evaluation of your responses including what you could change and how. Responses to other students - you only need to respond to one other student and your response need to reflective on an experience where that student has listened or not listened to you. I want details on this and good thought. REMINDER - some of you are NOT practicing good communication skills because of your lack of effort on DQs. You are required to proofread your work, spell check it, and answer all the questions not just some. I will give only 8 points to you if you have spelling errors in your posts, that includes capitalization of words.

Maria Meyers, I know how you feel when people don’t listen to you because it’s starting to SERIOUSLY irritate me because it happens so often. It really irritates me when you are talking to someone and another person interrupts and the person you were talking to stops listening to you and starts listening to the interrupter. Things like that really get to me, so I can understand why it bothers you so much!

Torrie, I really appreciate how good of a listener you are, I know I can come to you whenever I need to, however it does bother me when certain people are around and you ignore me to talk to them. As for the most part I find you as a good listener and someone who truly cares.

Cameron – I think you will be a great listener once you discipline yourself not to daydream and to listen better. I like that you enjoy helping your friends with His/hers problem because a lot of people need advice or help with the problems they are dealing with. It’s cool that you like to listen to the person’s story before you say anything. It’s also good not to be disrespectful to the speaker. Great DQ =)

Mack, Well, for the example of the time you listened or didn't listen to me, where should i start? Your always listening to me, no matter what it's about, my dad or just someone getting on my nerves. So, i completely agree with your post this week(: Good job

Uto- I think you daydream sometimes because I would look over at you in Ag sometimes and you would be starring at something while thinking of something. It’s pretty funny sometimes.

This is has been really fun to read. You are all being honest about your listening skills. I was really impressed with Tori and the honesty you gave. Tyler you crack me up, and Cody you do try to be funny and although sometimes okay you are correct you need to listen to your friends better. Torrie it looks like others think of you as a great listener, and I have to say that you have done a good job of listening in my class.

Cody & Uto - I had a time in math when Cody and McKenzie would not let me talk. I was starting to talk about a movie and mixed up where this guy was from and I tried to explain why I did not realize he was Japanese not Chinese, but Every time I tried to say something they would interrupt. I do not think this is a good way of listening, but i guess i can figure out where the guy is from. Also thank you Cody for starting to work on that.

Harley- You've got a great post. I think that you're right, it really depends on who the person is. Some people are easier to listen to than others. I find that my mood also makes it hard to listen to people.
