Finally tell me why you think this article is important to you now and in the future. For you student comments - respond to what they learned or what they found interesting and add comments that will help them improve their learning on work portfolio.

I didn't learn a whole lot because in Mrs. Knebel's class we talk ALOT on the portfolios and other related things. Plus we did the banking stuff, and the resume' stuff. I have it all on my WOIS account. So i can't make much of a comment. But I know from her class that you really really need to keep an eye out for spelling errors. And have proper punctuation, and use simple words. If you try to make yourself sound too smart you will more than likely not get the job because it makes you look like you are trying too hard or that you a show off. And honestly who likes that, right?

I learned a couple things while reading this article. First I learned how to develop a job portfolio, then I learned the key elements to consider in developing my job portfolio, and finally I learned the best resources to look at to see a more in depth job portfolios. Some more things I learned while reading this article is that I can do this for almost any job that I want to go into. Then I learned how I could set up the portfolio to be read and presented. Finally the other thing I learned is the things I need to commit myself to while making my portfolio. I think this article can help a lot of people with the way they set up their portfolio and help them learn how to properly present it.

Three things I learned from the article are 1) Career Portfolios are coming back in handy to people searching for jobs. 2) A few things that go in a career portfolio are a resume, goals, and a career summery. 3) I learned they help you showcase a point.

Katie Bohler – I think it’s kind of a good thing you didn’t learn anything because you already knew most of the stuff! Mrs.Knebel is a great teacher and makes sure her students know things like that. It helpful!!

I did not learn a whole lot because it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I did learn that it would be good to have a portfolio when looking for a job. I also learned that when organizing your portfolio you should include many important things. Also, that you should only put important things not things that have nothing to do with getting a job.I found it interesting that the article tells you what to include. It says to include a description about you. It also says to include a list of accomplishments. Like things that you have won or awards you earned.

Three things I learned from reading this are: 1 What work portfolios are, 2 How to create them, and 3 what to put in them. Three things I found interesting were: 1 that work portfolios are making a comeback, 2 just about anything can be in the portfolio, and 3 how easy it is to make a portfolio. I think that a portfolio will be very important in the future because getting a job will become harder. We will need to make the best impression and that is easier when you have everything collected.

I didn't learn as much as I think I could have simply because you have taught us a lot of this in class, I did learn that a lot of experts liked the idea of a job portfolio. Another new thing I learned is, I didn't realize you needed to have a table of contents, that is something I have really thought about. The final thing I learned was there are a lot more we could include in our portfolios. You tell us it's ours and we can personalize it and such, but the link gives you great ideas to include! One of the things I found interesting in this article is that it says once you have your portfolio complete keeping it up-to-date isn't a problem and is fairly simple. I also found it interesting that on the web-page they talked about how there are books and it gave you a name for one of them, I didn't know job portfolios where that important. The final thing that interested me was how teachers, artist, journalists, and a few other job seekers that have similar jobs have been using job portfolios and they are just catching on!

The stuff i learned while reading the article that a portfolio is a lot easier then i had thought when Mrs.miller said we had to work on you portfolio for your superhero's i kinda panicked and thought i know this is gonna but so hard.but when i started working on the portfolio it was surprising that was not hard. i needed to put more information then my partner and i did but come time to work on my portfolio i will add more information.

To be honest I didn’t learn anything either because Mrs. Miller already has talked to us about portfolios today. So I already know. The things I thought that were interesting were that it will help you get a job, and that you want to try to keep up with it while growing up, and that you have to make it really nice. I think this portfolio is important to me because it’s, going to help me get a job, and I won’t be stressed when I’m in 12th grade because I’ll know how to do it.

I learned many things in this article. One of which was that more artist types started using a work portfolio first. This was news to me because I always thought that everyone used them. I also didn’t know that you could include job goals. I think that is a great thing to include. Lastly I didn’t know that you could include your letters of recommendation. I don’t know what I thought we did with them, but I didn’t know to include them.

I learned a lot while I was reading this article. One thing I learned was that you should keep your portfolio in a three ring binder to make it more professional. Another thing that I learned is that you can make an online portfolio. The third thing I learned was that there should be sixteen different categories. There were a lot of interesting things in this article as well. One thing I found interesting about this article was that all the categories needed so many descriptions. Another thing I found interesting was that you need samples of your work. The third thing I found interesting was the two biggest decisions. One is determining the format for the portfolio and the other is the organization of the portfolio. This is important to me now because we are working on a portfolio now. I think it is important to me in the future because it will help me find a job.

I think Taylor Lewis made a fair point that we will later on need our portfolios (some more soon than others) in the future. But Tyler was right. Mrs. Miller (And Mrs. Knebel) have already gone over the majority of portfolios. And I think Mrs. Miller really helped me understand better when she showed us HER portfolio.

I didn’t think you would put your information on a website. I guess that would be a good way to spread your Resume and such, but who would search up you? They would have to have your information already I assume… Secondly, there is way more things involved in your portfolio than I expected. Thirteen to be exact. Finally, I wouldn’t have thought about making a WHOLE portfolio and take it to my interviews. I would probably only bring my Resume, cover letter, and filled out (and neat!) application. I didn’t think you would have to have a portfolio with all of your work in it. Silly me! ^o^

This article gave me a lot of thought. I learned a few things. Like one thing I learned was you could have an online porfolio. That is a really good idea. You also can stay very organized if you have one of those. Another thing I learned was that you want to be very neat, you want to make yourself stand out from other people so YOU get the job. The thing I find most interesting was the online portfolio. I think by the time I'm a senior there will be some student using them.

One thing that I learned was that if you want to make a professional impression on your possible future employer, the presentation of your portfolio is extremely important. By placing your pages into a protected three hole punched sheet, and placing them into a three ring binder, this makes it look much more important than if you just throw all your pages together and hand it in. Another thing that I learned was that a table of contents, I never knew that. I was thrilled to learn that once you make a resume that you don’t have to make another. One thing that I found very interesting was that the portfolios are making a comeback. I wouldn’t have thought they would have ever become unpopular as they are necessary in my opinion for choosing the right person for your job opening. I also thought that it was interesting and cool that you can put almost anything in a portfolio. I found it surprising and somewhat interesting that you have to have at least three people that are willing to brag about your strong points. I had always thought that you only needed to.

While reading this article, I learned many different things. Such as, when working on your portfolio, the way things are organized and put together are extremelly important. You don't want to give them the wrong impression on your work ethics before they even hire you right? Well, another thing that I learned is that you can have an online portfolio, which I think would come in handy if you have not really eligable handwriting. But, if you don't have eligable handwriting in the first place you might not want to sign up for a job like banking where what you write matters a lot to the customers. Then the last thing that I learned is that your work portfolio isn't completely different than the portfolios that we have to have for our Student Led Presentations, it's good to have your best works to show your future boss. (hopefully)

I think this article is a good article for anyone to read when looking for work. There are several things I learned while reading this article. One of the things I learned was that by having a work portfolio it can make getting a job easier. Another thing I learned was how to keep it. This article said to keep it current and update it frequently with current information and to keep things neat and organized by keeping it in a three ring binder. Lastly, I learned all the different things that are recommended to go into a work portfolio. There are sixteen things listed with this article, so I won’t list them all.

Emma, I totally agree with everything you said. I think it’s a good idea that we are doing this now instead of right before we graduate. I also think it’s a GREAT idea we are doing this right now because I know a college student that had their mom write pretty much everything for them because they didn’t know how to make a work portfolio and really didn’t want to deal with the time and effort. I’m really glad we are doing this. Emma, you had a good post, I think from what I read, we had a lot in common when it came to our thoughts of that article.

I learned several things once I read the article. One thing I learned was that it is best to keep your portfolio in a three-ringed binder to have it look professional. To have tabs or dividers and a table of contents so that you can find things. Also to have a sample of some work you have done like paper, reports, projects, and other things. There were several things that I found interesting. Another is to write where you see yourself two to five years from where you are now. One is to tell of things that inspire you to do your best. That you can list some kudos that you have gotten from customers, past employers, colleagues, and other people. If you have any military services you can list those too. It’s important because it tells you what you will need in your portfolio. This will help now because it’s best to start your portfolio now so that they can see some good things about in from high school. This will help in the future because you won’t have to worry about having to remember things from a year or two back and it’s easy to keep to date.

Harley- I liked yours a lot. Since you made it so upbeat and fun to read. I didn’t know there were thirteen things that are involved in your portfolio either. I learned from Mrs. Miller that it isn’t smart to use cursive which sucks because both my cursive and print aren’t very legible. So my portfolio wont be very neat sadly. There is a lot of stuff that I wouldn’t have put on my portfolio like kudos that people have given me. But I liked your DQ. Comments are closed.
