I think that one important concept that I learned from this article is the importance of being employable. Employability skills include being reliable, responsible, creative, being able to solve problems, having a good attitude and social skills, and the ability to make sound decisions. I think having employability skills is crucial. Finding workers who have the skills to be a good employee and are able to fulfill their jobs can be difficult. If you want to get a job then you need to be a reliable, responsible worker who can get along with other workers, have an attitude that is willing to learn and be disciplined in getting work done. I think that employers are deeply concerned with personal skills because it affects their bottom line. Employees with good personal skills have more confidence in themselves and work with others in a calmer, honest, and open fashion. The skills I think are necessary for getting, keeping, and doing well on a job are being employable, responsible, respectful, and honest and having good social skills and having the ability to work well with others. I think that all of these skills should be reinforced in the classroom. The most important one I think would be having good social skills and having the ability to work well with others. The other employability skills can be learned later but this one is crucial in the work environment. What I wonder about is what employability skills I need to work on. I think that our school does a good job of reinforcing these skills. Most of the teachers model these skills.

One important concept in this article is that you can divide employability into three different sections: basic academic skills, higher-order thinking skill and personal qualities. This is important because many times people have skills that they consider employable but they do not have skills in all three sections. I think employers are concerned with personal skills because employees have to get along with each other, have a good attitude, and need to be responsible. If they are not, then a business will not run smoothly. To do a job well, I think a person has to have personal qualities and with hard work the rest will come. These traits also need to be reinforced in the classroom because then we are used to behaving this way and later on it will be natural for us.

One important concept that I learned is that you have to have employability skills in order to do well or keep your job. Employability skills are very important because some people may not want you to work for them if they don’t think you have the skills necessary to do the job they want to hire you for. Employers are concerned with your personal skills because if you don’t have personal qualities then they may not like to work around you and the other people may not want to work around you either. I think in order to get, keep, and do well in a career you need to be respectful and be able to problem solve and think on your own without bothering other people. You also need to have a great attitude otherwise people won’t want to work around you. I think that a skill that should be reinforced in the classroom would be decision making because in order to be efficient and do well on your own in projects you need to make your own decisions. This article makes me wonder how many people can’t do a lot of these skills unless they have a motivation to be employable. I think that Pomeroy School District teaches pretty much all of these qualities and it helps me know how to be responsible and work hard.

One important research finding that I learned for the article was that it’s never too late to learn these skills. I think it is important because it means that not just kids and teens can learn them, but adults can also. I think that employers are deeply concerned because it reflects on how they get along with the co-workers and just basically how the company flows. If they have one bad person it can drag them down and they don’t want that. The skills that I think are needed to be successful are being responsible, self control, social skills, being honest, adaptable and flexible, good work attitude, cooperative and self motivated. The skills that I think need to be reinforced in the classroom would be responsibility, good work attitude, and cooperative. I think this because not only do you need these for a job, you need them for everyday life. I was wondering what they mean by teach don’t tell. I mean to teach you at least have to tell them. I honestly think that some of PHS is doing great at teaching and modeling the skills but some of them don’t. It’s like sometimes they don’t take it seriously, and put it like a punishment. I don’t think that punishing them to get them to do something really works.

Employability skills are one of the important concept. They are because these are the basics skills and without these you can’t very well do anything so you wouldn’t get the job. I feel like this is important because without having the simple things you can’t do the hard things. The most important skills are probably being able to read type 20 words per minute, being able to lift 50-60 pounds, use your hands, good penmanship talking fluent to others and not being shy. The things that I would need in a class is to type read right talk and not be shy because those are probably the most required. It has raised that I need to be pretty good at typing because now days you need to type in almost every job and I really don’t have any questions about anything except what if you were not capable to do one of the things that are needed and it’s not your fault and they can give you the job because of that one thing. PHS is the best school I have ever been to and they have employability skills each week and that shows that they really care about us as kids and they don’t break the rules and they don’t let us so they show the same kind of employability as we do.

A theory that the article states is that employability skills are those basic skills necessary for getting, Keeping, and doing well on a job. This is important because if you don’t have employability skills then you will have a hard time being organized and responsible if you have a job. Also it could be hard to find a job if you don’t meet their employability skill requirement. People are concerned with personal skills because if you don’t have something special about you that would make you better for that job compared to someone else then they probably won’t hire you. I think skills that make you have good employability qualities are responsibility, being organized, leadership, social skills, communication skills, and teamwork. I think the most important thing out of these that should be enforced in school is responsibility. If teachers teach the kids to think things through and be responsible by getting everything done than it will benefit in their employability skills and their ability to get and keep a job. Some questions about this article that I have is how can teachers teach their students to have all of the skills? I think that the Pomeroy School District is developing more and better ways to make their students better by adding the employability grades which helps the students strive to be more organized and responsible and to realize what they need to work on.

What research I found in this article is that you have to be reliable, reasonable, creative, have great social skills, be able to problem solve, make good decisions, and have a great attitude. I believe that's important if you want a good and good paying job even if your want to keep the job. Employers are deeply concerned with personal skills, because they want to know if you have good personal skill and if you work well with others. The skills that are necessary for keeping, getting a job are reliable, reasonable, a good attitude, and personal skills. What skills could be reinforced are responsibility, and social skills, because sometimes we aren't that responsible, and we don't communicate that well with others. I' am wondering if my skills are good enough to get, and keep a job. Our school is doing great on modeling and teaching these skills.

One idea is for creativity and that everything needs to have them. It is important for some people to be creative so things can improve in the work area. Because if someone has people skills they could help get people to join or help the company. Creativity, people skills, and had a job. I think that creativity is a very important one to have because it helps people get things done faster. Why do we need to have employability grades? I think that PHS is doing an ok job at helping with employability. But what I think might help do better if you have kids be more creative about what they have to do on a assignment, in a group, or just going around the school in general still all the rules should still be enforced upon what is going on in or outside of school that is what I think the school should be doing.

One important thing that I have learned from the article is how important working with other members is. If you are the most qualified or are maybe tied for the most qualified, but you don’t have any teamwork skills or are just all about yourself then you will have a way less chance of getting the job. I think teamwork skills are important because if nobody on the crew likes you then your job won’t be fun or enjoyable at all. If you are friends with people and help out the other employees then your job will be more fun and the other workers will say good things about you which could help you get promoted. I think employers are concerned with personal skills because all of those qualities are nessacary to having a great employee. Some of the skills are responsible, having team spirit, honesty, and self-motivated. I think that the personal qualities are the most important for getting and keeping a job. When people apply most of them are going to be qualified, but your personal qualities are what make you stand out and look better compared to the other people. I think that all pretty much all of the personal qualities are reinforced in the classroom and they should be reinforced. I think the most important one is responsibility because responsibility covers bringing everything to class, turning things in on time, getting papers signed, or studying for a test. I am wondering what employability skills I need to work on. I think that PHS is doing a good job showing us employability skills and also teaching us how to use those employability skills.

I see responsibility in everyday life at school and I think it's the most important skill. Almost everything requires responsibility which is why I think it's the most important.

One important skill set that I leaned is the three skill sets: (a) basic academic skills, (b) higher-order thinking skills and (c) personal qualities. I think that this is important because all of these are important skills to getting hired. I think that employers are concerned about your personal skills because if you have had personal experience with baking but you are applying for a banking job they aren’t going to care that you can bake the want to know what your personal experience are for banking. I think that the most important skill would be to be responsible and trustworthy. I think this because if you have always been responsible and trustworthy in the past and your employer knows that you will have more of a chance to get hired because they will know that they can trust you. I think that these skills also need to be reinforced in a class room because you want the teacher to trust you and know that you will be responsible and get your school work in on time. One question that I have is in the chart it says that a personal skill that you need to have is why does one of your personal skills have to be self-directed? I think that PHS is doing a good job of holding kids accountable for their actions and making them have to figure out what it takes to be responsible.

One of the important concepts in the article is that there are three sections employability can be put into, basic academic skills, higher-order, and personal qualities. I think this is important because most of the time employers want some basic skills that should be met and more important skills that must be met too. Most employers also want a few personal skills in your work ethic, such as, responsibility and honesty. I think that employers are concerned with personal skills because they want someone who is organized or respectful. If they don’t have some of these qualities then the employer wouldn’t be interested in them as much, they wouldn’t want someone who is irresponsible and always gets their work done late or forgets about it. I believe to get a job and can keep it you would have to have certain personal qualities, but most importantly have the basic skills needed for a job because, they are going to be reading at some point or writing and employers will want these skills met. I think that the basic skills are most important in a classroom because to learn most of the things you will need to know would be to read and write and you will need to know math at some point and time. The biggest question that I would have would be, what if my skills aren’t enough or they aren’t what they are supposed to be? I think PHS is doing perfectly fine when it comes to teaching and modeling employability skills. The teachers are good models and I can look up to them and it helps me make good decisions and their advice helps me get stuff done on time.

One important thing I learned from this article was how important employability skills are. I think that employability skills are very important to have because they reflect on who you are as a person. If you don’t have any employability skills no one will want to hire you. I think that employers are concerned with personal skills because they want someone who will make a difference in their company, and to make a difference you have to have personal skills that make you a good asset. I feel that the skills you need to have to get a job, keep a job, and do well would be being an efficient worker, having confidence and pride in your work, being responsible, and being driven to do the best job possible. I think out of these skills that need to be reinforced in the classroom would be being driven to do the best job possible, this is already a major key in class but we could all improve on this skill. If everyone was driven to do all of their work to the best of their abilities then we would all be more successful. I am still wondering what skills I need to work on to be more successful in class. I think that PHS does pretty good modeling employability skills, but it does bother me when teachers don’t model responsibility. For example, they want assignments in at a certain due date, but they take as long as they want to grade assignments and then put grades in and that can be damaging to grades for a period of time.

One important thing that I learned in this article is how selective and careful everyone hiring is. Making sure that they hire only good, trainable, teachable people. This is important because knowing this prepares us for what we need and knowing early can mean getting a head start on what we need to do to practice those skills. I think employers are concerned with personal skills so that they know what they need to teach them, what they have been doing, and if you are a good, positive attitude type of person. Skills necessary for a job are for me communication, thinking/learning skills, positive attitude, being responsible, and being smart. Things to be reinforced in the classroom would be all of them before but being smart, since you are still learning stuff. Communicating well can help you if you have a problem, learning skills are required all the time, even not at school, being positive makes your entire experience a good one, and being reliable because people need to know that you get things done. A question I had was if employers are so concerned about employing someone, why don’t we have more places like school to help teach those skills? For me, PHS has done a great job, the teachers have kept me busy and I always try to get things done on time, teaching me responsibility, and they do much more than that, and do a great job at it.

The employability trait that I think is my strongest is my thinking/learning skills. I have always tried my best to know what I am doing and how to do it efficiently and accurately. The one that I could work on would be communication, which is because I feel like I don't always get through to people very well, and talk really quick, making it hard for people to understand me sometimes.

The teachers here at PSD have made me more responsible by giving us time restraints to get our work in. It makes it so we get our work in on time and not to procrastinate, but the teachers also know that some of us are busy with things like sports, and do allow small changes to the time needed to turn stuff in. I believe that they have influenced the way that I work in a good way, and makes me more ready for time restraints and time management.

One important thing I learned is that employers are now looking for a creative character trait. I think this is important because you need to be able to use your imagination for your job. For any job I think. Like if you were to have to come up with a presentation, you need to be able to come up with your own creative idea, not something plaining that won’t catch attention. I think employers are looking for good personal skills because it says what type of person you are and if you’re responsible and capable for the job. I think responsibility is huge because you might have a big task for your boss and you need to be responsible to show that you can do it. For class you have to have responsibility to turn in assignments, or for your actions or to keep something important and be responsible enough you won’t lose it. My question is that they’re now saying that employability is huge, not that they haven’t before that’s just what I have recently noticed. Why now this year is it more important? I think PHS is doing really good at teaching these skills because they’re giving us rewards which should encourage, and they’re grading us on it so it helps us get motivated to get the good grade and when we do it enough, it will become us without even trying.

I think one important concept that I have learned from this article are how important some ones employability skills are. Without employability skills it may be hard to keep a job. Being employable means that you have the basic academic skills, higher-order thinking skills and personal qualities. I think having employability is important because it means that you also have quite a bit of other good qualities. I think employers are concerned about personal skills because to work with co-workers, your boss and even customers it takes a lot of personal skills. You have to be understanding, reliable, and be able to make the customers feel welcomed. I think a lot of skills are necessary for a job and I think all of them should be reinforced in the classroom because if you aren’t held accountable in the classroom it is going to be a dramatic change when you get a job in the real world. This article has made me think about how I can improve my employability skills. I think that the school is doing a good job on reinforcing the skills. They will hold you accountable and hold you back from the fun privileges that we get at school, and I think that is a great way to handle it.

One noteworthy idea that I found in the article provided was that supervisor's, trainers and teachers should set good examples of the expected behavior not to mention that student's should have the chance to witness the type of work place behavior that is required of them. I think that this is important because, if a teacher has to tell you to do as they say and not as they do or they don’t set a good example by not following the rules given to all, then I think that many students can agree that it tells us that it’s obviously not important if the teacher is not even able to do it themselves. Employers are deeply concerned with personal skills for many reasons, one since it shows who you are as a person and possibly where you are maturity wise, and it also determines whether or not you can efficiently work in the real world and get the tasks done that are given to you. To pick a few would be really difficult because, really, all the skills that are listed in the article is necessary, but for the sake of this Discussion Question I chose five skills: Self Control, Decisions Making, Problem Solving, Integrity, and Responsibility. I think that these skills are necessary because without self-control you could get in trouble because you lashed out at someone during work. Decision making and problem solving is important because without these skills, you might not be able to figure out how to compromise with others or work out a problem with a co-worker. Integrity and responsibility are important because these allow you to get things done and have your word taken seriously. Integrity is really important for classroom skills because it means you are honest and have strong moral principles. That is a great quality to have in life and it will help people trust you and take you seriously. The article raised one question for me and has left me wondering why I don’t hear about a lot of schools doing this. I am sure there a lot, but from what I’ve heard from friends who live elsewhere, it’s just not enforced or thought about. I think PHS is doing alright with this. I think that we will grow and have a better system, but the modeling is definitely something we can work on.

I believe that one important concept is to be able to have self control because if you don't have self control you might put off that important thing you were supposed to do and play a game. I think that most if not all the skills are important for keeping a job and i don't think all of these should be reinforced in the classroom just a few of them. a question that this has raised for me is who has a name of needle men? ((in the references)not trying to be rude just a really weird/uncommon name) I think that our school is doing a pretty good job and teaching us employability skills.

You stated that you felt not all of the skills should be reinforced in the classroom just a few of them. Which ones do you feel are the few that should be reinforced and why?

one of them is team spirit, and just to clarify i do think its a good thing but some people might have Social anxiety or just don't like going to watch teams and cheer for them because of large crowds and if we forced students to go then that would set a bad reputation for the school.

Tanner, What would some of the employable skills that aren't employable? I agree when you said "I think employers are concerned with personal skills because employees have to get along with each other" and how do you think the school should reinforce those traits?

Jack, I agree with what you said. The school should reinforce those traits because I think it would help out the school a lot.

How should those traits be reinforced in a classroom? What are some examples, and why should it be like that? Comments are closed.
