The Sandy Hook Elementary Tragedy is something that has affected me in many ways because of having a kindergarten child, but also being a teacher.
The topic can be hard to address and cause people to become emotional, but as a student you need to be aware of the issue as it may have an affect on you in the future. We may be removed from the situation but with the world as small as it is because of technology we will all be affected. How do you feel about the tragedy and has it affected you? How? 2. Do you feel safe at school? Why or Why not? Read the following article regarding President Obama’s speech at the Vigil on Sunday evening. Respond to the following 4 questions regarding the speech. Article on Obama's Speech 1. Do you agree with President Obama that we need change to prevent these tragedies? Why or Why not? 2. What do you think can be done in our community to prevent violent acts? 3. I think the tragedy of the Sandy Hook Elementary is sad and is a very horrible thing. Whatever made that guy kill those Elementary kids must have been really bad. Yes it affects me because I have a lot of family in elementary school. Yes I feel safe at school; because I know that the principal and teachers will do everything they can to keep us safe.

Adreanna yes I agree with you on the first part but the second I don't agree as much Obama wants gun control but I believe you can never really control the use of guns because a lot of people have them so you can't just take them away that would be really hard next things you can't sell in the U.S you can still sell in other countries so anyone can still get a firearm

Adreannna I agree with you but you said out law the guns to the people that can't use them and stuff ya we should do that but some people would be just fine when they got the guns and like you said they would go crazy or have a bad day some time. police can't fine every one that has a gun that is crazy there are to many people in the world and to little police for the job.

Anna, I don’t think taking away guns would fix much. I think that if that happens more people with overreact and attack more people. Alarms are an amazing idea! If we have them in schools and houses it would save others. The media may no them telling them to go out and kill people but I think it does influence them.

I think the huge tragedy of the Sandy Hook School was an absolutely mis-fortunate thing. It’s not right for little kindergarteners to be killed! The tragedy affects me in certain ways. It’s a pretty scary thing to think of all of those kids being killed, but yet I still feel very safe at school. I feel safe at school because I know that the staff/teachers try to do everything in their power to make school a safe and healthy environment. It also affects me because I have a little sister and other relatives in elementary school. When my sister found out about the kindergarteners’ death she was a bit alarmed. She keeps asking questions like “Why would somebody do that? What if that happened in Pomeroy?”

Honestly, I was hardly fazed by this. It just seemed unreal to be. Lately there have been quite a few shootings that I just shrug it off. I wish I cared a bit more. I think if I was a parent or teacher it would’ve affected me more.

Teresa I like how honest you are about this but it can happen any where even Pomeroy but if there were just more people in this world that didn't go crazy and use things to attack instead of defend like guns they were men't to protect and hunt with not to shoot other people and teresa you said the rite things about the media I agree 110 percent.

Teresa, I agree with you on how we shouldn’t have our guns taken away. If guns were taken away, not only would we be completely destroying and ignoring the 2nd amendment, but we would make a lot of people very mad and a lot of those people might cause a lot of unwanted damage to the country when they are trying to keep their guns. I also agree that Pomeroy doesn’t have a lot of crime.

This shooting and Sandy Hook Elementary was very terrible. I really feel for the parents of all of those kindergarteners and elementary school kids. No parent should have to bury their own kids at only 6 years old. I think it probably affects most of us because we all feel for all the people closely affected by this tragedy. I think that I feel safe in school because this is a small town, but I still worry about it because this can happen anywhere. I agree with President Obama, there have been 15 shootings this year with 84 people dead. We need to change something. If we don’t they just keep happening. I don’t know how we could prevent violent acts in the community but in our schools I think the only thing we could do would be to have more lock downs, or drills that helps us so we would know exactly what to do. I really don’t understand why people would do things like that. As a nation I think we need to recognize people like that and do something to help them because obviously this man was not right in the head. The media probably has created these situations sometime, because I think some of the motivations of some killers have come from things that they have heard on TV or the internet.

Ireland I agree with you. I do feel terrible for the families that had to burry their children. No one should have to deal with that pain. I agree with you as well with the media part. I think that the media has many influences on people. I have seen many shows that have people shoot people.

I think that the tragedy was horrible, and nobody should have ever done anything to those children. I don’t think this tragedy affected me very much because I didn’t know anyone that was shot but if something like that happened in our school I think it would affect me more. I do feel safe at our school because we live in a small town and there is a smaller chance of that happening in Pomeroy. I slightly agree with Obama we should have a little more security around schools because most just have cameras and those can’t do very much. I think there should at least 1 or 2 cops that stay very close to the school so something like this doesn’t happen again. I think to help the nation is not to take away weapons but to have more. Only people that can honestly be trusted with some sort of weapon should have them. If there was one well hidden gun in the school or if there was a security guard this could have been prevented much more easily. I think the media has not created these situations because if the man wanted to be more famous he wouldn’t have shot himself.

1. How I feel about the shooting is that it is terrible. Why would somebody do that? If someone thinks that it was just for fun then they are just as sick as the guy who shot all those people.

Dylan, I agree with you on how the media focuses too much on the killer and not enough on the victims. I also agree with you on how the mentally unstable people should be given help and that could really help prevent such tragic events such as this one.

What happened was terrible and that’s simply to say it was. I guess I could say it has affected me because all those lives were taken from some stranger. If that were to happen to us it would be terrible. By this tragedy it has made me question myself and that question being are we safe? As of right now I feel safe at school, yeah Pomeroy is a small town and I think that’s what makes me feel safe. But if we had something like that happen nearby I would be really scared to be at school. I agree with what Obama was trying to say on how with have to change. But the thing is people don’t want to change so if we want to prevent these things people are going to have to really cooperate. Living in a small town you don’t really hear much about stuff like this happening in our town. But our community can prevent all of this by not going crazy. There’s no reason for anybody I don’t think that has the right to do stuff like that. This comment is really hard to right because the people of American won’t change. If we do change tragedies would not happen as often like this. The one way we can prevent all of this is by changing our acts and ways. The media might take part in these situations but not as much. They just give the scoop about it or start rumors.

I think that what happen at the school was the worst thing to happen it effects me because i have two brothers that are 10 and 11 and a sister that is only three and soon another brother or sister on the way. What Obama said about controlling guns and stuff is a good thing but also a bad thing because if people don't have guns they cant defend themselves before police arrive. I some times i feel safe at school because after every thing that has been happening in the world with all the bomb makers and people bombing buildings and stuff I don't know what I would do in a situaion like that I myself would probably fight but at what cost.

The tragedy is very sad to me. I think that it is just terrible! When I heard about it I almost cried. It affected me to know that it actually happened to a school. I now can’t stop thinking that it may happen to us. I do feel safe at our school because that we are a small town and I just feel safe. It is kind of hard to explain.

This has affected my because I could not fathem if this Tragedy was for Pomeroy Elementary it would be horrible, my brother is in the 5th grade I would be very devastated. And I feel bad for the family’s that are going to spend x-mas without a loved one/ones. To be honest I did not even think of it happening here.

I believe this has affected me, it has brought me back to the real world once again and made me realize that this could happen to anyone anywhere and at any time. I normally do feel safe at school but if there was something like this happening near here I would feel maybe a little less safe I would know that the person that did this terrible thing could come and kill any of us. I do not agree with Obama because you can not prevent stupid people from doing stupid things this guy did not take out a law book and say well if I break ten laws I'll do it eleven I will stay at home. Nothing like I said before you cannot prevent people from breaking the law. This is not really tragic honestly ask yourself would it make any difference if this guy would have come into that classroom with a bat or a brick not a gun we most likely would not have heard about it wouldn't have mattered the government is just taking this as an opportunity to make more gun laws. This is not going to prevent anything tons of kids die from car crashes every week nobody cares. The media is using this as a time to get more viewers blood and gore are what people want to see they don't make the children the most known its the killer and how he did it and why is all people care about I don't think anyone truly would have cared if these kids were killed with a brick or a bat or anything else this guy just wanted to go out with a bang. Did he? Yes because the media plasters his face all over everything we live in a sick sick society.

The school shooting is very unfortunate. I feel terrible for all of those kids and all of those parents that have to go through such tragedy, and I would not wish that upon my worst enemy. It has affected me even though I am here in Pomeroy Washington. It has affected me just like anyone else not actually involved in it; I am actually really sad about it and I wish that it had never happened. Even despite this school shooting, I do feel safe at school. I feel safe at school because I go to Pomeroy High School, and Pomeroy is a very small town and I feel safe with the teaching staff that Pomeroy has to offer. I think that we shouldn’t change to prevent these tragedies; instead we should improve. Improve the education of school shootings and the routines to make sure that everyone, especially the students, are safe during such a terrible event. I think that just making sure that bullying is definitely not tolerated in our school because bullying can really help lead to such a tragic event such as a school shooting. We can also ensure to protect innocent lives by increasing student knowledge on safety and security routines by going through many drills. As a nation we could make it mandatory that each and every school goes through safety drills and has a standard at which their security should be and if it isn’t where it needs to be the school should be held accountable. The media hasn’t created these situations, but it has definitely been a great contributor to tragedies like these. For example; some people might do twisted things like this to get famous to get on the news or maybe just because they are desperate for attention. The media has also made people feel worse about themselves. That is what I have to say about the school shooting.

I fell terrible about what happened at that school. It has made me be grateful that that hasn’t happened at any of the schools I have gone to. When I first heard this story it made me feel sick to my stomach because it’s so wrong that someone would do that. I do feel safe at school because we are in a small town and I think that if anyone came in our school that the teachers and everyone else didn’t know that they would be questioned on why they are here and I’m sure that they would keep an eye on them. I do agree that we have to change because if we have more people looking out for things like this then there will be less chance of it happening. I think that in our community we just have to keep a close eye on things I don’t think that we need to get metal detectors and stuff when we walk into school or a store. As a nation all I can say is look out for one another. I honestly don’t think that the media has created these tragedies. I think that the person who does it knows what they are doing and if it had to do with the media then we would stop having so much bad media that’s causing that.

1. I feel that the person who went and shot all those people was out of control. I thin =k its sad and just horrible, I really feel bad for all the families that were involved in it. The tragedy has not really affected me because it wasn’t near where I live, I think that it could though because I have all of my little siblings in elementary. 2. I do feel safe at school because I feel that the teachers and the principle will do anything and everything they can to keep us all safe. Comments are closed.
