Your DQ is to write a review about Career Day. State the pros, cons, what could be done better, what needs to stay the same etc. Your post must also include the three speakers you visited and things that your learned along with if you are thinking about that career as an option for your future.
Please make your post at least 200 words and proof read before you post. Your responses to other students must follow this guideline: 1 - to someone about a career you didn't see asking them at least one question about the speaker. 2 - to someone about a career you did see stating something else you learned or your opinion about that speaker.

Overall, I thought that Career Day was a huge success. Considering I had never participated in a Career Day at my previous schools, I thought it was interesting and it taught me a lot about the jobs I visited. One good thing I thought about Career Day was that the speaker's did a really good job a presenting their jobs to us students and they knew exactly what kind of questions we might have had before we even asked them! Another nice thing about the speakers presentations was that they had Powerpoints. My favorite speaker was Brittany from Wilkinson Orthodontics. And no, it wasn't because she is my orthodontist assistant, it was because she had a very interesting/entertaining presentation. She explained a little about herself, as well as presenting what she does for a living and the responsibilities that come with being an orthodontist assistant. With her presentation and her demonstration, I thought more and more about possibly being an orthodontist assistant. It seems like it could be so much fun! A con to the Real Estate Agents presentation by Patti was that she didn't have a presentation to show us or to walk us through during the class period. I felt as if she just winged it. The last speaker I saw was Thea and she is a counselor. Her job seemed super up and down, but also very motivating because she gets to help people with their possible decisions in the future and she also gets to experience peoples progress along the way. That can be very encouraging for her as a counselor.

Alex, I also went to see Brittany from Wilkinson Orthodontics. I completely agree that overall she was a very good presenter to have. The connection she had with us who have had her plus the description of what her job is and her duties was very well explained. The visual aid she had really caused us to get hooked and think about the job.

Alex, I went to Orthodontist assistance and I thought Brittany was really good as well. What is something that you learned from Brittany that you may know or may not have known about her? What Questions did you hear from your group that you did not know about the company or about becoming an Orthodontist?

During Career Day I went to 3 different Careers. First I went to an Orthodontist Assistant, then I went to a Counselor, and a Real Estate Agent. What I learned from an Orthodontist Assistant is how long the schooling is and how complicated it could be. My other career was the Counselor. Something that I learned from this class was the different things people go and talk to someone about. My last career was the Real Estate Agent. I learned that you don’t get paid the same way other jobs do. They could go a month or two without a pay day and then when they sell a house, they will get a lot of money that makes up for the time they missed. The pros for Career Day would be they had a bunch of different tables set up around the gym to go and talk one-on-one with them about the Career. The cons would be the classes we really long. Also, we weren’t able to pick the top three classes we wanted. Another con would be the Career speaker we not as interactive as others except at the actual Career Fair. These Careers that I went to were none of the Career pathways that I am looking into.

Miaya, I agree with you on how that we didn’t get to choose the career that we wanted. That could have made it better. Does the Real Estate Agent get a lot of days off while helping a client find a home? I also went to the Orthodontist Assistant and I thought it seems like a very complicated job.
Alex

Miaya, I saw all of the careers that you did! I also learned about the schooling it would take to be an orthodontist assistant. But, Brittany also explained to me what her everyday work day was like. She was very friendly and explanatory about the job she has to get done and how much time she has to work on that patient.

Miaya I agree with you on how we didn't get to go to the top three careers we chose. I also agree with you on how not every speaker was as interactive as the others and some didn't seem like they were very prepared. I have a couple of questions about being an orthodontist assistant. How much can a orthodontist assistant do, in comparison to an orthodontist. What is the difference in educational requirements between an assistant and an orthodontist?

Miaya, one career that I didn’t get to learn about was a Counselor. One question I have is, how many times a week do they have to work?

Miaya, I agree that the classes on Career Day were really long. Also when you said that we didn’t really interact with the speakers and what they were doing, maybe a way to fix that problem is on the paper the teachers give to the speaker, write down try to interact the audience such as making them stand or an activity. I learned out of your paragraph is that a Orthodontist Assistant still has lots of schooling to go through, and if so how many years does it take to be a Orthodontist Assistant.

Miaya what did you learn about the schooling from the real estate agent. I heard that they were a good speaker but I didn't attend that career
Tiffany

Miaya, I also went to the real estate agent. I learned from this that there pay each year depends on how hard that they work. Patty Bruckerman is self employed so she gets to choose when she works, how hard she works, and how long she works. If she wanted she could take a month vacation because she doesn't have a boss to tell her that she can't.

Miaya, I had the same problem you did about none of the careers you were actually going into. I didn’t get to see and orthodontist assistant either. Does their salary depend on how many people they see or do they get paid by the hour? Also, why do you think people would want to be a real estate agent if they only get paid when they actually sell a house?

Overall I thought Career Day was a very good experience again this year. I went to three different places, first I went to SRO, then Wildland fire, then Dispatcher. All three of these jobs were very fun for me getting to know what type of things they do in those fields. One thing I thought that was good about Career Day is that the speakers were very informational about their career and answered my questions without me asking any. I also thought that the career fair was very nice because we were able to go into the gym and explore even more careers instead of only three and those speakers were really cool with having different stuff for us to take and they talked about the benefits of their jobs and different stuff. My favorite speak was Jim Nelson mainly because I am close to him, and there was a question about hand cuffing someone and Jim told me to get up there so he could demonstrate the way of cuffing someone. With all of the stuff Jim showed us it is making me think more about going into the law enforcement field whether it be Game Warden or a cop but it made me think more about it. The second career I saw was by Shane Severs and he was the wildland fire and his presentation was very nice because he talked about a few things that the forest service offers. The forest service isn’t just about fighting fire, there is so many other job options in the field. The third presentation I saw was by Kim and she is the Dispatcher for Garfield Co. I liked her presentation because she was very friendly and was very prepared for all the questions we would through at her. She was all in all a good presenter.

Brandyn, I agree with you on how Career Day was good on how it was run and how we go to talk to each speaker in the gym. I also agree with you that Career day was and Excellent experience but I think we need more classes to see. I think that the speakers need to speak more on their carrier and not have the students ask questions to get them to talk. That is one thing I don’t agree.
Alex
3/10/2016 08:11:12 pm
Brandyn, did Jim Nelson ever tell you what the hardest part about his job was? If so, did that make you rethink about his job field or make you wonder if being successful in the same career as him is something that you would want to do? Also I agree that friendliness makes a huge difference when somebody is presenting to you about something informational.
Anna

Brandyn, I also went to listen to Jim Nelson, the School Resource Officer. I personally liked this speaker because of all the information he gave us on his job and how the community will determine if the program stays after a few years when the government doesn’t fund it anymore. He had lots of good information and I liked the video he showed on the training they are supposed to do in the school.

Career Day was exciting from the start, to the end of the day. It was entertaining to learn about the speakers, the careers and the road it took to become their professions. The start of the day, I went to a Financial Advisor her name was Stephanie Jones. She explained that a financial advisor controls and manages money. What she needed was a High school diploma obviously, and then she had to go to college to get a degree in business and communications. Then she explained about inflation this is like when the money for gas is always increasing and decreasing, she tries to predict what it will be in a year and helping her patients save money for retirement and making sure you can still provide food, clothing, even a car, and shows you the right prices. She is there to help you manage all the money in a smart and balanced way. My second speaker was Ed, his career is a Vulnerability Research Specialist, I learned that Vulnerability means putting yourself out there so like if you were to give your name to someone and that person would advertise it by saying like do you know this person and gives them a reason to. Then the research part is when you get info and you’re the engineer so you’re the creative piece. Ed also finds all the items that are wrong and fixes them. He also is known as an Aback Research Hacker. So he hacks but it’s legal. The third speaker was named Thea Skalicky, her profession is a counselor, and they work in mental health and treatment agencies. The most of her work is on people who are in a family crisis or people who are addicted to illegal substances.

Karrie, how many hours does Stephanie Jones work seeing that she has a pretty big job. Also, is she able to have the same amount of family time as she use to? Is she at the highest position for her job or is that all that there is for a Financial Advisor?
Anna
3/20/2016 08:00:16 pm
Karrie, I didn’t go see the Financial Advisor. My question for you is how does she manages money and also what kind of pay did she get?

3/20/2016 08:23:08 pm
Karrie, I got to see the Financial Advisor as well. The thing she taught me was all about the stocks and when to invest your money into them. Such as invest when the stock is down so when it goes back up again you will make more money instead of losing money.

I thought that Career Day was kind of fun because like in the real estate agent, I learned that they make a lot of money selling houses but they also buy the houses themselves. Sometimes they don’t sell the houses because they were used for meth or other kinds of drugs or because people say that they are haunted and there’s ghosts in them. You have to have home insurance or renters insurance if something happens to your home. If you’re going to sell houses, you have to make a back ground check with the FBI. I learned that a truck driver drives a long time without sleeping and that they like that job because you just get to drive and its fun. You get to haul heavy machinery and drive big trucks. Truck Drivers salary is 40 to $45,000 a year but it depends on what you haul and you get to travel a lot of places. The other career I went to was Enterprise solutions which is like someone who gets paid to send messages to their customers and meet with other companies about products and what they want to sell. You can sell or buy technology and earn $80,000 a year unless you’re the boss.
lane
3/9/2016 10:15:57 pm
Gustavo, I don’t agree with you on the truck driver part because there is a lot more you have to do than just drive truck you have to have a CDL in order to drive big heavy things and you are limited on how long you get to drive without sleeping. You have to pay lots of attention while driving so you don’t hit anything in front of you or both the sides of you. But I agree with you on the rest of the careers you had to go to.

Gustavo, you said that real estate agents make a lot of money selling houses, how much do they make a year? I also had the truck driver and it wasn’t asked in my group but do truck drivers usually own their own trucks or do use ones for their company? What would you like to haul if you were a truck driver?
Wyatt F
3/11/2016 08:20:55 pm
Gustavo I agree with on the Truck Driver but I learned something else that you did not mention. The one thing that I thought was fascinating was that Truck Drivers can only drive so many our a day then they have to stop and get rest.

I agree that career day was fun. I didn't get to go to the Real Estate Agent class and I think that it is very interesting how they wouldn't sell a house just because of its past owners. I was wondering what they would do with those houses then? Would they just abandon them?

I thought that Career Day went very well and it was a great success. Over the years that I have been here for them, I thought that this one was just as good as the others. Once thing I would recommend is that our guest speakers have visual aids because it seems to hook us more when there is something to look at and see what the job is like from another view. I thought that the speakers did a very well job with describing what they do and they were so descriptive that they covered many questions that we might have asked. I went and listened to 3 speakers and the first one was Kyle Williams, the Enterprise and Solutions Manager. I do not think I will want this to be my career in the future but I did learn some valuable things that you can use in any job, such as, if you are teaching someone allow them some room for little mistakes because not everyone has the same skills as you do. The second speaker I listened to was Brittany from Wilkinson Orthodontics. Presenting wise, she was my favorite because she had a well put together PowerPoint, was very person friendly, and had the information we wanted to know. I learned from her that to be an Orthodontist Assistant you have to be professional, patient, person friendly, and be a good communicator. The third, and favorite, speaker I listened to was Helin Riley. She is a Speech Therapist and this really interested me because I would like to become some kind of therapist in the future. I learned the schooling you will need, and the types of degrees you can receive. Each of these speakers did very well and they knew how to hook us into the topic.

My thought about career day was that it was a good success this year especially since FBLA helped this year with set up and cleaning up after. The other thing that was Awesome was after when we got to go to all the booths and see all the speakers. I enjoyed this because I walked around to each one and two of them I really liked and they were the air force and the Army and they are careers that I would never think of going into but all the fun things the representative told me about them changed my mind! They were very motiving and helpful with what we should do if we choose this career. And the three careers I did were Real Estate Agent, Orthodontist Assistant, and Wild land and firefighting. My favorite speaker was Brittany because I don’t go to Wilkinson Orthodontics but he was really funny and knew a lot about what she does and she inspired me to become an Orthodontist someday. And one thing I think we should change is how many careers we go to because I would go to 5 instead of 3 because when I went to the booths I wanted to go to those people that motivated me to want to do these jobs. If we did this I think it would be fun because then we could learn more careers and figure out what careers we really want to do. I thought maybe I wanted to be an Orthodontist but after going to the booths I changed my mind.

Deana, I totally agree on how successful it was because FBLA helped with it. Last year they helped with it too, but this year it was better for sure. I didn’t go to the Wild Land and Firefighting. Do they get to spend much time with their families while on the job? I went to the Orthodontics Assistant also and I really liked Brittany. I learned that the schooling seems complicated. I also agree with how the booths were really good this year.

Deana, I did not go to the Orthodontist Assistant but it sounded like everyone liked her and had something positive to say about her. I thought I would have enjoyed it because I go to Wilkinson Orthodontics so I think it would have been interesting to find out what exactly she does. I was wondering does one assistant have their own clients or do all the people that work in the practice have different people every time?

Deana, I didn’t go to the Orthodontist Assistant. It sounded like you really enjoyed her. I was wondering if Brittney’s job hours are flexible for sick days or for vacations.

The pros and cons on Career Day was that it was run pretty good I think. I also think the speakers need to practice or something so they can talk for the whole hour we are in their listening to them. One of the speakers that I was at only talked for like 20 minutes and the rest of the time we had to ask questions for he/she could keep talking. The pros are that I liked how was run and how we had the career fair in the gym to get a chance to talk to all the speakers and get to get souvenirs. I also liked how the school had all the classrooms filled with speakers. I think that we should also have 4 or five people to go to instead of 3 to learn about. The speakers that I went to was Truck Driving, Wild Land and Fire, and Dispatcher. I learned that in truck driving you have to pay way more attention driving down the road than in a car. In Wild Land and Fire, I learned that you get to travel to different places and fight fire. In Dispatch I learned that you take a lot of calls during the day shift than the night shift.

Lane, I also went to the Truck Driving class and I learned lots about how after driving for a certain amount of hours, you are required to take 32 hours off duty, and the company buys you a room at a hotel for a night. I also learned that they are allowed to take passengers with them.

3/10/2016 01:04:17 pm
Lane I agree with you because some of the speakers should practice but that is a lot to ask for someone coming to talk to a bunch of teenagers and not getting paid to come. I learned that a wildland and fire got paid a lot of money per fire that they went onto. Why do you think that the truck driver started to drive truck instead of doing something else?
Kiley

I thought this years Career Day was very successful and better than last years. Some pros were that I think the kids and some of the teachers asked a lot more of questions than last year. I think that the career fair was pretty great because of all the other booths they had this year. Some of the cons was that the speakers were very fast and didn’t talk very much and it was hard to learn about it. Overall I thought it was very interesting and I learned a lot about other jobs. One of the careers I went to was the counselor and she was a very nice lady. Her name was Thea. I learned a lot about what they do and how much their pay was. The average pay at start is $41,870. One of the questions I had asked her was “How many patients do you work with each day or does it depend?” She said it does depend on how many cases you end up getting. There was another question I had asked her and I asked since there are different kinds of counselors do they all come together and work together on certain cases and she said they are always working together. The next person I visited was John King and he was a Truck Driver. I honestly think he didn’t talk very much in his speech so it was easy to ask lots of questions. He talked mostly about you have to keep a clean driving record, get to see amazing things, and don’t get paid when you aren’t driving. The third speaker I went to was Brittany at Orthodontist Assistant and that was pretty interesting. She basically talked about herself and what they do in the office. She said you have to at least have 1 year and 6 months of schooling. This job sounds like a great job to interact with clients and get to know your co-workers more. I think that the fair career needs to have the same amount of booths like this year because I had lots of fun. I also thought the speakers were really good this year and there were lots of choices to choose from. Overall I thought Career Day was a success.
Billy

Kiley I think the truck driver was the best out of all the careers I went to. The speaker, John King, seemed mostly prepared but didn't talk about specific things as much as some wanted even when questions were asked. The best thing about this speaker was he had a visual aid so we could actually see what a truck driver does.

This year’s career day was very interesting and fun. The three careers I got were dispatcher, truck driver and wild land fire fighter. I think instead of having 3 careers we go to for 40 minutes we should go to more than 3 and just have them shorter time periods. Kim Anderson was the dispatcher and it was very fun learning about her career and how she does it. I learned you must be very calm and under control. John King was the truck driver and I learned that it is very important to have a clean driving record and you are always seeing new and different things. My 3rd career I went to was the wild land fire fighter. Shane Severs was explaining the career to us, he talked a lot about how there is also many other fields you can go into besides fighting fire. Overall my favorite was the truck driver. I liked it the best because driving is very fun to me and being able to go all over the world just driving would be very fun. I also liked the going to gym and people had their careers set up all over. You could go and talk to any of them and they wanted to make you interested in that career. Career day was a huge success.
Brandyn
3/11/2016 12:59:38 pm
Jace, I agree with you because Shane talked a lot about all the different fields that the wildland fire offer and pay that you get for working with the wildland fire. I also agree with you because it was really nice to go into the gym and walk around to get to talk to all the other careers that we had here. Why is it so important for a truck driver to keep his or hers driving records so clean?
Wyatt F
3/11/2016 08:17:17 pm
Jace I was not able to get dispatcher on my list. I really wanted to so I am asking who did the presentation and would you consider this as a possible career. I think it would be very fun talking to cops all day.

This year’s Career Day was very interesting however I think there could be some things that could change. Like maybe taking votes from the student’s on what kind on a career they would want to see. I think if we could make this happen you will have a lot more happy faces on the students when they walk out the door. One of the things I did like about this Career Day is the number of careers to pick from. I felt like I had a variety to pick from but a lot of the careers where not from me that is why I think we should vote on who as in the students would want to see in the Career Day. The 3 careers that I chose for Career Day where Wild Land Fire Fighter, school Resource Officer, and A Truck Driver. The first 2 where great But the Truck Driver career kind of bored me and that’s okay because it told me that I would never want to be a Truck Driver in my life. The first 2 career involved a lot of action and that is why I think I was so entertained with them because I would love action and adventure in my career later on in life.
Jace
3/17/2016 08:17:06 pm
Wyatt, I also had the wild land fire fighter and I enjoyed it also. I agree that the fire fighter would have a lot of action and it would be fun fighting fire for our state or community. I didn’t have the school resource officer but I would like to learn more about it. What exactly does the officer do? Does he or she have to stay at the school the whole day?
Karrie
3/18/2016 10:56:50 am
Wyatt, I agree how if the Teachers took are votes on about what we want to do and come down to some options at the end to see what careers and figure out the speakers, but otherwise I believe the teachers still did tremendous amount of work. I also agree what you liked about Career Day is the wide range of options to pick from. What do you mean that the Truck driver was boring and what was his name? From your paragraph I got that you loved action and that the Fire fighter and School Resource Officer.
Sariah
3/20/2016 09:18:14 pm
Wyatt, for the wild land fire fighter is the only fire they puf out in the forest or do they also put out other types fires? Also does the school resource officer just deal with stuff at school or do they also do I her things in that field? Then does all the truck driver do is drive because if that is all it is that would be boring?

Pros and cons of Career Day: A few good things about career day were that things seemed very organized and most of the career speakers where well chosen for our area. I think most of us learned a lot about the careers we chose. In my opinion, unfortunately, there were many bad things about career day. Although some of the careers were good but there wasn’t that many to choose from. I only got to go to two of the careers I chose, and this happened to a lot of others. The truck driver speech was one of the best. It was very interesting and it really opened my eyes. Being a truck driver is a lot more complicated than I ever realized. Being a Real Estate Agent was not one of the careers I chose but it was kind of interesting. I really didn’t want to go to this career speech, but it was changed for me. I really wanted to go to the school resource officer because this career seemed very interesting. For some reason, I did not get to go to this one. The wild land fire fighter seemed very interesting especially since you can enter the career as a high-schooler and be able to get your foot in the door. I am thinking of getting into the wild land fire fighter as a high-schooler and then move on from there. Overall, I am a little disappointed about how career day turned out, but it was definitely better than the year before.

Career Day this year was a success. I had a lot of fun learning about different jobs and what people do and even how much they get payed. I thought it good because we had a lot more different career options to pick from and it went by smoothly. This year I didn’t think we had any problem everything went as planned and it was easy for students to get around to each classroom. The first speaker I got to go to was from Wilkinson Orthodontics her name was Brittany. This was my favorite Career out of the three that I got to go to because I had a pretty good idea about what she already did in her job. At the Career Fair she let us even try to put the colors on Fred’s braces. The second career that I went to was a Financial Advisor, I didn’t have that high of an interest for this job because it seems like this job is almost a full time job and those kind of jobs don’t really interest me due to the fact that I would also have to work on the weekends. The last career that I went to was a Real Estate Agent this job kind of got my attention because she talked about how she sells houses to a lot of rich people and gets to actually connect with her clients. Overall I thought Career Day was a big success

This career day I got to attend the classes: Truck driver with John C. King, author with Joy D. King, and Cyber Security with Ed Prevost. In Truck driving I learned how much they get paid, that they can go pretty much anywhere, what kinds of things that they haul, how long they can drive in a day which is 14 hours, and that they can take passengers with them. I also learned that for every 8 days that they drive, the company pays for a hotel for them to stay in instead of the back of their truck. On that day they get 32 hours off duty. Basically they get to go sight-seeing where ever they are! I think that this job is definitely an option for the future. I am interested in it because you get to travel, listen to music, take friends and it is practically road trips every day! In the author class, I learned it took her around 2 months to write books, and that it is much quicker to just publish something yourself rather than going through a traditional publisher. I don’t think I would choose this as my career, but maybe as a side job or hobby. In Cyber Security, I learned what a vulnerability research engineer is, and the pay. The pay can be anywhere between $80,000 and $350,000 per year depending on your company and experience. This could be an option for me as my future career. Career day could be much more interesting if some art or music classes were offered next year in my opinion.

The careers I went to were Real-estate agent, Counselor, and Speech therapist. The Real-estate agent was really cool she just told us stories about the weird things about her job. The counselor was not fun at all. She just read off of her slides the whole entire time and her slides were like a book. The Speech Therapist was really funny and interesting but I do think that her little baby was distracting. But I really liked the career fair it was very fun and interesting. I think if I were to change anything about it would be more interesting careers. I learned a lot about my future careers. I learned that Eastern Washington gets students more jobs right out of college than anyone else. I also talked to Eastern Washington because I am very interested in going there. I also talked to the medical people because I am interested in going into that field. I also think that a Speech therapist or a Real-estate agent would be a fun career. I would choose that career because I love helping people and making an impact on people’s lives. I hope that career day keeps going because it is fun and helps me plan for the future.

Cali, I also went to the counselor. I agree with you on how the counselor wasn’t very fun. Although she had good information. I also agree that she just read off her slides and they were too long. Even though she had a lot of information we still had a lot of left over time leading to a lot of silence and not very many questions.

I was absent the day that career day went on, due to surgery. So, with that being said, I’m going to give my thoughts, and opinions on career day from my past experiences. I think that career day is a good idea due to it helping give you more ideas for your future. Although I think that career day is a good idea, I’m not very fond of it, due to the fact that it gets extremely boring. I think that the time you spend with a speaker should be shorter, that we you can get around to more speakers, and that way it isn’t such a long time in one speaker. I think this because sometimes you get stuck with a career that you were not interested in and you have to sit there, the whole time, and it makes it extremely easy to zoon out. I think that most kids just use it as a way to get out of school, and not doing work. I think that there needs to be more exciting careers that come. Most of them are just simple and basic, if they were more interesting I think that it would be easier to listen to, and more fun. I feel that we should be able to choose the careers we want. I also think that the time we get at the career fair is way too long. I feel that it should not take that long to walk around, ask a few questions, learn some new things, and move onto the next. I also think that there should be a wider variety of colleges that come. A lot of the colleges are the ones that are just pretty much local, and don't really give a big variety.

I think this year Career Day was a success. There was a wide variety of different jobs that we got to choose from. I think the speakers did a good job, at least the speakers that I went to were good and I heard good things about the other speakers too. The three careers I went to were the Financial Advisor, Counselor, and Enterprise Solutions Manager. I think they all were informational but some were better than others. Most of the time I like when the person has a PowerPoint or something that we can look at but out of the three careers I went to only one had a PowerPoint. I liked the financial advisor not only because I like math but because she had papers of fun facts that we got to fill out and learned some interesting facts. She knew what she was going to say and informed us a lot about her job and what she does. A Financial Advisor could be a potential job for me because it involved math and helping people but right now I am leaning towards something else. The Counselor I liked the presentation she showed us. She gets to help people every day and help them be a better person. I thought it was interesting but I don't think I will have a job in that career in the future. Lastly, I went to the Enterprise Solutions Manager. I thought that was interesting and I liked how in the job you find problems and solve them by finding something you could make or sell to them. This job interested me but I probably won't have that job in the future.

Carmen I also went to the financial advisor and I thought she was a very good speaker and knew her topics well but there wasnt a lot of questions asked so I didn't get to know a whole lot about her job other than what she told us.

On career day there were few cons but there were also just as many pros. The cons included the career choices. There were not any career choices for anything that I was actually ever interested in doing. The pros were that is was very well organized and I had fun listening to the speakers even though I would never choose to do any of those jobs. My favorite career class I went to was the author one because the speaker showed personality instead of just being about her job. We got to know a little about her and her job. The other one I went to was the Truck Driver career option. I don’t think I enjoyed this one as much and I really didn’t learn much about the career. I learned that there were different kinds of trucks to drive and different trucks based on what you are hauling. The third career was my least favorite and it was the Orthodontist assistant. I got really bored while she was talking and it got awkward sometimes because not many people had questions about her career. Overall Career day was okay but it could have been better. It might have been better if there were more options for something that I might be interested in but that was really the only bad part about it.

All together I think that Career day was a huge success. This being my second year for the Career Day I think it was even better than last year. I was very interested in the Careers I visited and I think that they helped me in my journey of picking a career for the future. One good thing about Career day was that the speakers were really organized and that they were ready for any questions that might have come up during a discussion. Another good thing that I thought was that the speakers had PowerPoints so we had more information so we did not get the lesser amount of information. My favorite speaker was Brittany from Wilkinson Orthodontics. I thought that Brittany was very entertaining and because I have always had an interest in the dental field. This year and last year our school had a person come in from the dental field which was very interesting and made it helpful for me to choose what career was right for me. A con that I found was the Real Estate Agents were that you would not always get paid because you would sometimes not sell house which would make me nervous.

My opinion about the Real Estate Agent was it was interesting especially how she got a phone call and she actually let is listen to the conversation. So thou g I learned from her was that you should be a good people person or you might not be that good at this job.

I think that overall career day was a great idea and that our FBLA chapter should continue to put this on for future years. I think that this is a great way for kids in our school to get an idea on what possible careers they could go into. Some things I would change are instead of 3 careers I would do 5 because it would bring more variety and more options so that we would expand our knowledge even more. The three careers I went to were the speech therapist, counselor, and vulnerability research engineer. I enjoyed all of these except the counselor because she wasn’t very engaging with her presentation. She read her slides and didn’t fill the whole period of time which left us with extra time to just ask questions. I really like the speech therapist because she brought her kid with her and used her for some examples also she was really relaxed. She showed us how you would work with young kids and I found it fascinating. The last career I went to was the vulnerability research engineer. Ed was really interactive with us and that was cool because he didn’t just read some slides but taught us in a way that I would stick with us. In conclusion career day was a good experience and I think that this should continue.

Career day was great. Some of the Pros. was the verity of people to choose from. This made it easier to get a career you were more interested in then just a random job. Another is time, we had lot of time during the presentations which allowed the speaker to talk about most of there job if not all of what they do every day. My final one is set up, I feel like it was set up and organized well we knew where everyone was going and I don’t think anyone got lost and if so then they got help. The Cons were material they really didn’t go over pay or job out look I think that was some of the most important material people look for I could careless about what classes you have to take I want to know what I am going to get paid and if is even something in considering going to college for that long or that little for. Also I think they could have had more power point information if a power point at all. I think this would have made it a lot easier for people to grasp their career presentations.

I think career day can be improved by having more speakers with jobs that more students are actually interested in and by having our students ask more questions. I think the pros would be getting students the opportunity to listen to speakers that actually know about careers and being able to ask your questions. I think cons would be missing a full day of school to listen speakers instead of actually doing work. I think the career fair should stay the same. The 3 careers I went to were orthodontist assistant and learned that their family gets free braces, I went to a speech therapist and learned that dealing with the parents is the hardest part of their job and I went to a financial advisor and learned that you don't need a degree in finance to have it. I am interested in being an orthodontic assistant but not any of my other 2 careers.

The Career Day that I experienced was a successful. It was kinda fun learning what they were talking about and how or what they do with the jobs they do in their daily lives. The career that I was put in was a School Resource Officer, Dispatcher, and Wildland Firefighters. The presentation they gave was not boring but fun to listen to. The thing I would fix in Career Day is how long the presentation is like one of them was way a little long and the other one is way too short. The three speakers I visited was Jim, Kim, Shane, and Renee. Everything that I had was all low nothing really seems to be interesting.

In my opinion, career day was one of the best ones that I have attended. I learned more this year than I did the previous two years I have participated in career day. Some things that could be done better are having more options to look at during career fair. So next year we don’t have the same colleges for career fair, I think if we got more variety during the fair that will help the students learn more about all of the options out there. My favorite speaker had to be Ed Prevost. I didn’t know a lot about the career he spoke about then I went to his session and by the time I got out I knew a lot more than I did when I went in. The next best was the Financial Advisor, since I was already interested in that career I paid extra attention to her. She told me everything from the job pay to what kind of clients she has. My least favorite was the Sales Representative, only because he wasn’t as good of a speaker as the others I saw. He basically read right off of the requirements instead of just going on about his job. He was just a little more boring than I had hoped.

Aiden, I'm gonna have to agree with you that Ed was probably the best out of the three I saw as well. Not only did I know more when I left, but he was also pretty funny. Knowledge and laughter, two things that are, personally, needed by everyone.

Overall I liked this day but two of the classes I already knew a lot of what they told me these two classes were speech therapist and I knew a lot because I've been In speech therapy for all of my life. The second one was author I knew a lot of what she told us because I've loved reading most of my life.I really liked this day though because of the career fair and I got to learn a lot about different colleges around the area that I might was to look at later. I also learned about being a Real Estate Agent, which I would not want to be, but it was I interesting. Something that could be done better is have the kids at the school give more ideas about different jobs to being to our school. The job fair should stay because I think it was the perfect ratio between jobs and colleges. One thing in learned about being a speech therapist was to exit a speech program the speech teacher has to set up a test. O e thing I learned during the author you get more pay if you self publish. Also one thing I learned about Real Estate Agent is if you are not a good people person you won't be good at this job.I would not want any of these jobs but I do want to be a publisher and that is what made me want to go to the author class.

Career day was a very interesting and successful day. There were some things that could have been done better in my opinion but a lot of the things were really good. Some things that could have been done better is having more options for the classes and being able to go to more than just three. I really enjoyed the whole day overall though. My favorite part was the career fair. This was my favorite because you got to walk around and learn about things and look at their pamplets and everything. My favorite speaker was Patty Bruckman. She was a real-estate agent. This career intersested me the most out of the three. From her, i learned that they don't only sell houses but they also sell things such as farms and businesses and even land. Since she is self employed, she is taxed higher. I like that she is self employed because she gets to choose how long she works a week. On average she works about 40 hours a week. During career fair there was a person from Eastern and that one interested me the most. Eastern is the college that i want to go to after high school. She told me all about it, she told me how many people are there and what things that I can major in and gave me things to look at to learn more about it.

I think Career Day went well. As my first one I don’t know If it was a success or not but I enjoyed it. I liked how we got to choose different speakers to go and listen to. One thing that I found a little chaotic was everyone getting ready for it and trying to get their papers. I didn’t like how we had to get them from one person and try finding that person. I also liked how it was a long enough time for the person to tell us all about their career and time to ask questions. The length of the sessions needs to stay the same. I also liked how there was the actual career fair where we got to walk around and see different jobs and local places we could possibly work at or colleges we could go to. The three speakers I went to see were Hila Riley, Speech Therapist; Jim Nelson, School Resource Officer; and Thea Skalicky, Counselor. I learned that these jobs all have their ups and downs and pay quite a bit of money. Personally I am not thinking about any of these careers as my future career but it was good to learn about what other jobs are out there in our society today.

Personally, I think career day is fun overall. First you go around and listen to the jobs people have and get to ask questions, then there are a few dozen other professions you get a brief look at when you go and check everything out after meeting with the first speakers. Comments are closed.
