Read the summary article on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens (click here). Then answer the following questions. Please number you answers and use complete sentences and proper English to answer the questions. You must use your OWN words to answer the questions.
1. Be Proactive: What does it mean to be proactive? What qualities are needed to be proactive? Can you discern in your own life the difference between what you can influence and what you cannot? How proactive are you in your classes...in your daily life? 2. Begin With the End In Mind: How do you define your own personal principles? Have you established a goal/mission for this year? What would (or is) you goal? - Be specific!!! 3. Put Things First: How do you manage your time? What to you put priority on when organizing your time? 4. Think Win/Win: What is win/win (you may need to use the Internet to find this answer in more detail)? Give an example from your own experience where you achieved (or not) a win/win situation? 5. Understand/Understood: What does this mean...and how is it relevant to your life? 6. Synergize: What does synergy mean and how does it apply to personal effectiveness? How does it differ from the Win/Win principle? Can you think of how synergy might work in your own life? 7. Sharpen the Saw: What does it mean to achieve "balance"? Can you apply this principle to your own situation? After you have answered the questions. You need to read 2 other students responses and respond back to them in support of their statements or to respectfully disagree and explain why. Remember we first need to Understand before we can be Understood. Remember if you didn't get full credit for DQ#2 because you weren't able to respond to someone on your post last week make sure to check that post as well and make a response back by Wednesday - September 21st for opportunity for full credit.

1. 1.What proactive means is to follow your own ideas, but take the ability to learn from others. It means to focus on time and energy. I can influence how my diet goes, but can not influence how tomorrow will go. Depending what class I am in and what type of day it is I will most likely to be mostly proactive. On my daily life I will be less proactive.
Jack Lyle
9/18/2016 08:09:54 pm
Mason, I agree with what you said except for the very first one, you said "What proactive means is to follow your own ideas" Being proactive doesn't mean to follow your own ideas it means "creating or controlling a situation by causing something to happen rather than responding to it after it has happened"
Tanner
9/19/2016 09:03:37 pm
Mason I am going to agree with jack on this one, because being proactive doesn't mean follow your own ideas or to take the ability to learn from others, It means to control or create It. Other than that I like how you explained everything else.
Maddy

Mason I think that this is a good response but I disagree with what you said about a win/win situation. You said that it is if two of your favorite bands are playing on the same day but at different times you could go watch both of them. I don’t think that is a win/win situation because you are the only one benefiting from it, but at the end of your DQ you said that one of your cow workers need some meat so he bought a cow from you and you both benefited from it because you got money and he got meat.
Gavin

Mason I agree with what you said. Especially how you worded number 7 where you said constant improvement and I liken that the pretty much explains it. P.S how will it make you more flexible

1: Being proactive means that you get work done as soon as possible, or at least getting it done quickly. Some qualities that are needed to be proactive is being able to hold yourself back, for Instance If I have homework and I know I need to do It but I also want to play a game, If I do the homework first that means I can hold myself back, If I play games instead and know that I have to do homework but don't want to then I cant hold myself back. I believe I know what I can influence and what i cant influence. I believe I am pretty proactive in class. And I believe I am proactive in life, but not as much in class.
Tanner
9/19/2016 08:56:40 pm
Jack I do not really agree with what you said on #7 because you didn't really explain your situation you just said you could apply It to a situation. I also didn't agree with what you said balance means because you didn't really give us an explanation on what it means.
Danner
9/22/2016 09:43:31 pm
Jack I do not really agree with what you said on #7. You didn't explain your situation and I don't agree with what you said balance means because you didn't really explain it in your response very well.
Teagan
9/23/2016 02:09:07 pm
Like Tanner I didn't really know what you meant on 7 because you didn't really say specifically what you do to balance your time. I like what you said on number 6 though because like you said it isn't like a win/win situation because you may not benefit in a good way.
Tanner

#1 Being proactive means that we have to be responsible for our own actions and be responsible for our selves. The qualities that are needed to be proactive are time and energy. Yes I think that we can because there are things we can do about and there are some things we can't do. I think I am very proactive because I take time doing my work and i am very focused.
Olivia

Tanner, at times your response was very well said, but it also confused me in some parts. On Achieving Balance, I didn't agree with your statement that states "Achieving balance means to do It quickly and to do not have to put as much effort you need to put Into It." First of all, I had a hard time understanding this as the grammar could have been better, but I also disagreed with this because the way you worded it, it sounds like you are saying that achieving balance means putting in only a fraction of your effort to get the job done.
Olivia
9/20/2016 09:57:03 pm
I forgot to add in that doing only a fraction of the work isn't balance, it is considered slacking.
Mason
9/21/2016 04:32:31 pm
Now Tanner I agree with most of what you said but with Understand Understood (you spelled understand understood) is that when someone is trying to help you you must understand them first before you can be understood what I also disagree with is the achieving balance because if you go to fast thought life you won't achieve balance later on in life.
Alyssa
9/21/2016 08:57:06 pm
Tanner I don't understand what you meant in number 7, achieving balance. Achieving balance isn't doing it quickly and not putting in effort. Putting in less effort doesn't mean your balancing anything it means that your not trying in my opinion. I also don't understand what you meant by doing it quicker. What is it? Why does doing it quicker mean balance? I agree with some of the things you said but I don't understand what you mean in achieving balance.
Heidi
9/22/2016 12:24:50 pm
Alyssa, I agree with what you said about Tanner's, Achieving balance is not doing it quickly and not putting in the effort. When you put less effort in it does not mean that you are balancing, it just simply means that your not putting in the effort.
Jack Lyle
9/22/2016 02:37:48 pm
Tanner I agree with what you said on most of the topics but on the last one where you said "Achieving balance means to do it quickly and to do not have to put as much effort into it." achieving balance means to have two things equal, for example like when it said he was chopping wood down that he should take a break, what that would do would make the saw sharper so it's easier to saw thought and he would rest and regain his strength balancing things out.
Danner
9/22/2016 09:50:00 pm
Tanner I agree with what you said mostly except for #7. What are you doing quickly and does it mean you are not suppose to put effort in chopping wood and anything else you do.

1. Be Proactive: Being proactive to me means putting all of my effort to the important things and getting what needs done, done. I think you need to be responsible, independent and hardworking to be proactive. I think I am pretty average when it comes to being proactive in classes and in daily life.
Olivia
9/20/2016 09:36:12 pm
Anna, great response to the questions! But there was one thing I did disagree with and that is when you said being proactive means "putting all of my effort to the important things and getting what needs done, done." I think this definition best fits the word productive better than proactive because being productive means getting your all of your work done. Other than this, job well done.
Mason
9/21/2016 04:38:45 pm
Anna I agree with everything you said on her you are right about how to achieve balance by working on you self, and the understand understood makes a lot of sense for everyone to understand what someone is trying to tell you with the fact in mind that some times it is you how needs to be understood. Also with synergy is also correct to work with other people all the time.
Brooke
9/21/2016 08:54:50 pm
Anna, I have to agree with Olivia on this one. Being proactive is like, putting all of your effort into something and being responsible with all of the consequences and rewards that follow them. The choices we make will help shape our lives.
Alyssa
9/21/2016 09:09:06 pm
Anna, I completely agree with number six, synergy. I don't understand what you mean in number seven though. To me balancing is when you balance multiple things in your life instead of just focusing on one thing. I'm not sure what you mean by making it easy on yourself. But I completely agree with everything else, especially your answer to number six.
Sydney
9/23/2016 09:55:41 am
Anna I love your DQ. Number 4 is really good. I like how you gave an example with it. I think it makes it easier to understand how you are trying to explain it. I think everything is good that you wrote except for number 7. I would have to disagree a little bit with that one. Otherwise great job!
Olivia

1. Be Proactive: Being proactive means accepting that we are responsible for our own actions and everything we do will affect our life. To be proactive you need to be honest with yourself, be able to take accountability, be driven and motivated to make your life better. You can recognize what you can influence and what you can’t influence in your life. I would say that I am proactive in my daily life and my classes because I choose my actions based on the results to come. For example, at school I always finish my assignments to the best of my ability because then I know that I will get a satisfactory grade.

Gracie, I agree with most of the things you have stated except for one main thing, when you say,” if you are working in a group if you do one thing and the other does another thing then you can get it done faster”. The point of working as a group or in partners is to work together to get it done not to work separate and then put it all together.
Maddy
9/22/2016 01:37:01 pm
I think that this is a good response but I disagree with what you said about being proactive you said that it means doing the right thing and not disappointing people or doing something that would hurt someone. I think that it is important to do the right thing but I don’t think that is what being proactive means. I think that it means to focus on getting all of you work done on time and organizing your time and work.
Brooke

#1 Be Proactive: Being proactive means to put all of you effort into what you are doing, and we are responsible for what we do and the rewards or consequences that follow. The choices we make will always result in what we can and cannot do or say. I think I am proactive in classes and in my daily life because I almost always get all my work done and I try to focus on what is going on in my life and think about the consequences and rewards that will follow.

Brooke, I agree with everything you said. when you said your definition of being proactive I think that you should add that you make things happen you don't just wait for it to come to you, because I feel like you are always working for what you have you don't just let it come to you.
Evan
9/23/2016 06:11:43 am
I agree with most of what you said, except number 7. In my opinion, achieving balance is knowing when to take a break between multiple things. Working hard does help in doing many things like sports and school work, but you still need to take a break from them once in a while. Other than that I agree with the rest of what you said.
Teagan
9/23/2016 02:16:54 pm

1. Being proactive means taking responsibility for your actions. To be proactive the qualities you need are to be able to focus on the things you can control. I can tell what I can and can’t influence in life because I know that I can have a positive influence on others by setting a good example, but I can’t always influence what other people choose to do. I am proactive in my classes by focusing on my work, not letting others distract me, and turning things in on time. I am proactive in daily life because I take responsibility to get my stuff done.

1. What it means to be proactive is to take control of your own life. Qualities that are needed to be proactive are focus, time and energy. I know what I am able to influence in my own life, such as my peers, and what I cannot. I am very proactive in my classes. I do my homework, study, use time wisely, and turn things in on time for the most part.

1. Being proactive means accepting that as human being we are fully responsible for our own lives. The qualities that are needed are our behavior and our actions. Well sometimes I can. I’m not always proactive in my classes but I am proactive most of the time.

1. Being proactive means to identify and solve problems or situations before they happen. The qualities needed are that you need to be able to talk and understand what is going on around you so you can fix it. Things you can influence in your life are your attitude, how you respond in situations, and the type of person you are. I am proactive in my life and class by having goals and working towards them. I try to think ahead to how I would want to be treated when I work with others.
Evan
9/23/2016 06:00:48 am
Danner, I agree with most of what you said, but I don't agree with your answer to number six. Win/win is both parties will benefit, always in any situation, but synergy is more like when somebody helps you, you benefit and they get little to nothing in return until you help them back. Other than that I agree with what you said about everything else.
gavin
9/23/2016 10:22:37 am
Danner I agree what you said mostly except with number six like Evan said both parties benefit when its a win/win. A synergy us when one part benefits and the other is just trying to help so that person gets nothing.

1. To be proactive is to be more involved in things, such as problems and daily life. Qualities you need to be proactive is time and energy. Yes, I can discern what I can influence and what I cannot. I think I am averagely proactive in my classes and daily life, I could probably work on being more proactive.

1. Be Proactive: Being proactive means that every person is fully responsible for their own life. To be proactive we need to be able to focus on our time and energy you also need to work on the things that you can do something about. In my life I am able to be proactive with whatever I do but I can’t really make other people be proactive. I can try and push people to be better and work harder but I can’t make them go and do anything they have to choose to go and do it. I can be proactive in my classes by making sure I know when assignments are due and turning my work in on time and by making sure I have a study plan for quizzes and tests.

1. Being proactive means to believe in your own work but if you get tips from someone then you can take them but don’t just whatever someone else is doing. I can try but I know not everybody will listen but some might. I believe that I do a lot on my own but sometimes I have to listen to other people because I don’t know what to do.
Briielle

To be proactive means to be responsible and get your tasks done. In order to be successfully proactive you have to get over your laziness, motivate yourself, and use your time and energy properly. In my own life, it’s sometimes difficult for me to tell those things that I can’t influence and things I can influence. For example, I know that I can’t influence or change other people's mindset, but I also know I can influence how they perceive things. During class time, I try to be as proactive as I can. It can be difficult at times because I feel like I either can’t sit still or I just can’t concentrate, but for the most part I am highly proactive.

1. I think that proactive means to be responsible and make good choices because your choices will affect you. To be proactive you need to be responsible and be able to focus. You can’t help that other people aren’t being proactive but you can help if you are being proactive. I can be proactive most of the time if I am not too busy and I am capable of doing the things that I am responsible for.

1.Being proactive means not to wait until something bad happens, make sure that you take care of it so that it won’t happen. Some qualities that are needed to be proactive is to be are responsible, attentive, and organized. Things that I can influence in my life is to be a respectful student. Something that I cannot influence is like who to vote for, Hillary or Trump. I think that I am pretty proactive in my daily life because I take care of things before they happen to turn bad.

What it means to be proactive is having focus and not being lazy. It is knowing that you have a choice and that your decisions lead to what happens next. It is also having things such as priority. The qualities you need to be proactive are things like having a good focus. Not getting side tracked easily. Having motivation. I feel that I can discern the things in my life that I can influence. Things like my habits and my work ethic are examples of things that I can influence. What is on TV or what the weather will look like are examples of things I cannot influence. I feel I am somewhat proactive in my classes. I am proactive in my daily life.

1. To be proactive means we as human being are fully responsible for our own lives. The qualities that are need is to be concern, influence, time and enegry. I can infulence my brothers to play in sports, but i can’t influence them to eat the right foods. Not very well because I don’t commuicate a lot. Comments are closed.
