This week you will be writing two inital comments and only replying to one student. So be sure that you complete DQ#8a and DQ#8b.
Read the article "Making the Grade in Group Presentations" When making a group presentation (something you'll experience in this class) you need OCC, but these aren't easy to accomplish. How can you make sure that you have OCC with your group? Of the three what do you think is the most important and why? How are you going to work to make sure that your group presentation in this class or another class will be successful? This week you will be writing two inital comments and only replying to one student. So be sure that you complete DQ#8a and DQ#8b.
Read the article "For Students: How to Make the Most of Group Work." a) Has your experience with group work been positive or negative? Why? b) Goals 1-7 can help you have a positive experience, but which one do you think would be hard to do and why? c) Finally, which of the 7 goals do you think would be the most important when working with students in this class? What about students that you don't know as well or haven't worked with in the past? Why? Answer the following questions in 300+ word essay. NO response to other students this week. DO NOT number the response - please put in essay format.
1. What do you think the purpose of Veterans Day is? 2. What makes a person a veteran? 3.Do you believe that a strong military more important, less important, or of the same importance today as it was 50 years ago? Explain your answer. 4. What, if any, duties do governments have to their war veterans? Do you believe that your country treats its veterans as they deserve to be treated? Why or why not? 5. Should women be allowed to serve in the armed forces? Why or why not? 6. Veterans of the past and of the present literally risk--and sometimes sacrifice--their lives to protect our lives and freedoms. What can we as private individuals do to honor these men and women? Using a search engine locate a website that talks about the history of the computer. Read the site and write a 150 word summary of the information in that site. Also include if you think that the site gives you reliable information and if you would recommend someone doing research on computers to
use this site. In your response first provide the URL for that site, then your summary. For your reply to other students pick 2 students that have different sites and read their sites and then give one interesting fact that you learned from that site. Also tell them if you agree or disagree with their opinion on the site being reliable and why. The first comment under this post will be an example of a response, you CANNOT use the same website or reply to my Example. The discussion from last week continues. This week you need to have at least FIVE(5) - 50+ word responses to people for last weeks discussion. You will put the comment in this blog - when you post follow the example post given by me. You need a total of 5 posts to 5 different people.
You must respond to anyone who responded to your initial post in disagreement, and you must defend your opinion on ALL posts that someone has disagreed with you. I want to see good open conversation on the Pros and Cons of cell phones in the classroom. This means you may have more than 5 posts, and if you don't defend you will lose 5 points. Example: If on Brooke's initial post Briielle disagrees with something she has said - Brooke must respond to her. If Jack posts a disagreement on her to Brooke she musts respond to that post. If Brooke posted a disagreement to Alyssa and Alyssa responds here then Brooke must respond to Alyssa. Think about the fact that you always want to defend yourself to the end in person - and the same is true here. If you didn't do your DQ last week you must 1st complete last weeks DQ before you can begin this DQ. Post your initial DQ #4 response here and then comment on a total of 7 posts to make up the two from last week. Check the DQ throughout the week making sure that you respond to all post that someone has disagreed to ensure ALL points for the week. (Any post made on Friday will not require a response) Can you use your cellphone at school?
A central Iowa high school has cracked down on students' excessive use of cellphones and other hand-held devices by banning them during the entire school day. Officials at Bondurant-Farrar High School say students can carry their cellphones in their pockets or purses, but they can't use them or even look at them. That includes between classes and during the lunch hour. Officials say the ban was in response to students' excessive use of the electronic devices. They also wanted to control cyber-bullying on social media. Students face different levels of punishment if they disobey the rules. Some students have had their cellphones taken away for a short period. At least two students have received a tougher three-day school suspension. Critical thinking challenge: What does the school gain by cracking down on cellphone use? Do you think students should be allowed to use cellphones at school? Why or Why not? After you respond to these questions you will then respond to two other students opinions. Read the summary article on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens (click here). Then answer the following questions. Please number you answers and use complete sentences and proper English to answer the questions. You must use your OWN words to answer the questions.
1. Be Proactive: What does it mean to be proactive? What qualities are needed to be proactive? Can you discern in your own life the difference between what you can influence and what you cannot? What would (or is) you goal? - Be specific!!! 3. Put Things First: How do you manage your time? What to you put priority on when organizing your time? 4. Think Win/Win: What is win/win (you may need to use the Internet to find this answer in more detail)? Give an example from your own experience where you achieved (or not) a win/win situation? 5. Understand/Understood: What does this mean...and how is it relevant to your life? 6. Synergize: What does synergy mean and how does it apply to personal effectiveness? How does it differ from the Win/Win principle? Can you think of how synergy might work in your own life? 7. Sharpen the Saw: What does it mean to achieve "balance"? Can you apply this principle to your own situation? After you have answered the questions. You need to read 2 other students responses and respond back to them in support of their statements or to respectfully disagree and explain why. Remember we first need to Understand before we can be Understood. Remember if you didn't get full credit for DQ#2 because you weren't able to respond to someone on your post last week make sure to check that post as well and make a response back by Wednesday - September 21st for opportunity for full credit. This DQ will be in regards to a very controversial issue that the Internet has caused an increase in. First we will look at plagiarism and then piracy.
Answer the questions that are presented for your Initial Response (200 words in paragraph format). You must pick one student that you disagree with one or more of their statements and explain to them why you disagree and give facts to them that would help them change their mind (50+ words). Then for your second reply to a student you will reply back to a student that has disagreed with you to either defend your point or explain why they have changed your mind (50+ words). If no one responds to you by Thursday - you will earn your other 5 points the following week. Plagiarism 1.What is plagiarism? 2.Why do you think people plagiarize? 3.
