The following PowerPoint provides instructions for the Work Portfolio project. Please read the directions carefully, I will cover them in class in January.. The due date for the complete Work Portfolio with Cover Page, Cover Letter, Resume, and Application is the last day of school. You will continue to REDO the assignments until each element is at a Business standard of complete.
When doing evaluations of Resume and Cover Letter print out the Resume Eval and CL Eval sheets and give to the person evaluating the item. Make sure that the evaluator signs. On Cover Letter remember you job ad must be attached to the letter.
If you have questions be sure to e-mail me or put a comment in the blog so that I can answer your questions.
Many of you are asking yourself and each other why are we doing this, if that is a question you have asked then open the file below to see what is expected of you when you are Senior. Then go seek out a Senior and ask them, "If you could have created a Resume, written a Career Report, and filled out an Application in 9th grade, how would it help you today?"
All of what we are doing will be used by you in the near future and in real life. I want you to have the ability to leave my classroom ready for the next step, your Senior year and beyond. So even though you could throw together some stupid Resume or be lazy when completing your application think about the time you will save if you put forth your best effort now. Save your work you do now and you will be ahead of the game when you are Senior and instead of stressing about things like most of our Seniors you will be able to enjoy your Senior year because you did it when you were in 9th grade.
Using the sample Application handed out to you in class with your partner you will fill out the application for the job you used for your cover letter. Your application will be for your Super Hero and may include made up information, but that fits with that character. Do not put in education when they have none, or work experience when they have none. Refer to lecture notes on Applications and the sample applications below for help. HAVE the person with the best hand writing complete the Application as neatness is very very important. For references each of the students will be a reference for the Super Hero. (this will allow you to put your name on the application - so don't write your name anywhere else).
Super Hero Cover Letter You will search for a job that you think would be a good match for your Super Hero using www.jobs.com, then create a Cover Letter for that job. Be sure that you highlight one specific skill that your Super Hero has that would make them a good candidate for the job. Be sure to refer to your lecture notes on formatting a Cover Letter.

Students will be assigned a Super Hero and a Partner - List is on the file "SuperHero.rtf" Use the Internet, a website is on the list as well, to research your Super Hero and complete the "Resume Data Collection Form." Monday with your partner create a Resume. You will also need to find a picture of your Super Hero and if you want to do PhotoShop to include picture of you with the Super Hero you can. You will print your Super Hero's Resume and Picture out and hang on the wall. There are 15 Super Hero's and one person in 1st hour will not have a partner.
Students were to pick 2 careers (not picked by someone else in class) and then write a report comparing and contrasting the 5 job elements learned in Chapter 13. The rough draft report is to in Academic Style and submitted to my website before the beginning of class on Friday, April 15th. The list of careers can be downloaded below. The final draft of the report is due on April 20th by 3:30pm, student will have Monday and Tuesday in class to work on them.
If a student is working on the report at home they need to make sure to save as Rich Text Format (.rtf) not .doc
