There will be a test over Applied Math concepts of circles and time on Friday this week. Studnets will be able to use a 3x5 note card for the test.
"Every job is a self-portrait of the person who did it. Autograph your work with excellence." From this quote there are many different meanings and many different ways to autograph your work.
Re-read the quote then tell us how you interpert this quote. Explain how you relate this to your school work and the things you currently do in your life. Finally how will you make sure to follow this rule when you are in the working world. When you respond to other students, because you know them so well, give them some constructive criticism about how they autograph their work. YEAH YEAH yeah for my 2nd hour class you all posted and did a great job of answering the questions and responding to each other. I am very very proud of you. Only 2 students didn't complete hoping that Week 4 will give a 100% activity.
Haley thanks for the points about facial expressions they say a lot for us. Shelby, advice is a great point and Katlyn you do a great job of giving feedback in class. Max great feedback examples of shaking hands one we often forget about. Taylor L you are right test scores do provide feedback to teachers, but so do homework assignments allow teachers to see where they have broken communication before the test. David when you are talking to someone 99% of the time they are hearing you but may not be listening. Esther more students need to use your feedback example of asking questions in class. Alex make sure to re-read before posting for errors, yes eye contact is very important. Carol and Kelcey thanks for adding the blog as a part of feedback. Torrie "think before you speak" a basic rule thanks for adding that. Mckenzie body language is a huge feedback to teachers in the classroom, your descriptions were great. Taylor P thanks for saying we should welcome feedback and constructive critisim because if you never get it you know the person doesn't care about you. Maria providing understandable feedback is very important because without understanding there is no point. Tori good feedback does improve communcation good point. Emma participation is important in classes, it helps teachers not be so onesided. Harley improvement is constructive criticism, you made a great point. In your Communicating for Success book you will see an article "In Search of a Majority" by James Baldwin on page 64-65. You will also find the article on the "Digitools 9 Files" web page. Read this article (you can check out a book after school and return the beginning of school the next day), and then respond to the following questions:
1. Define the word conundrums in your own words. 2. Define the word majority in your words. How does that relate to the how Mr. Baldwin describes majority? 3. In your life is there a group or a person that you think holds the majority? If so how does that majority compare to the sentence definition of majority? Sentence definition - greater number of people or things I am very proud of my Applied Math 1 students for your effort on your Pre-Algebra Test. This really helped me see what we need to recover and things that you are currently doing a good job with. A little hint - a final exam for this class will look very similar to what you saw today.
A simple reminder to those who are using the blog to be funny, you are graded on your posts. So if you think you are funny, but what you post could be offense don't ask why you have been given a C vs an A. Remember what you type is being read by many others, and says a ton about you - even if you think it is funny it may not be.
When we listen to others one of our responsibilities is to provide feedback. Tell us some basic ways we provide feedback in class, at practice, at home, and with friends. Also explain how you can make sure that your feedback is constructive.
To strengthen your communication skills here are some questions to ask yourself in order to determine how effectively you communicate:
Over the week think about these questions while in school, practice, home, or interacting with friends. Then give a reflection on the 5 questions, and then rate your level of communication. Tell us how you could improve your communication using the five questions above. As your first attempts and your first week, I have to say overall very very impressed. You guys are doing a great job of providing thoughtful comments. I am glad to see that you are having good discussions with each other, but remember to be professional in your responses. Before you post think about what you are saying to someone. When we speak comments we get to use tone of voice and body language to help send our message, in written we have no help so our message must be very clear in its meaning.
The grading for this is assignment is very simple, A - you did a great job wrote 3 posts (not all together), B - your post was good but you had some errors, C - you posted but didn't have all the needed posts, D - your posts were either lacking in effort or rude, F - NO posts
