In your Communicating for Success book you will see an article "In Search of a Majority" by James Baldwin on page 64-65. You will also find the article on the "Digitools 9 Files" web page. Read this article (you can check out a book after school and return the beginning of school the next day), and then respond to the following questions: (150+ words)
1. Define the word conundrums in your own words. 2. Define the word majority in your words. How does that relate to the how Mr. Baldwin describes majority? 3. In your life is there a group or a person that you think holds the majority? If so how does that majority compare to the sentence definition of majority? Sentence definition - greater number of people or things When responding to another student - be sure to read the handout given last week about quality responses. To strengthen your communication skills here are some questions to ask yourself in order to determine how effectively you communicate:
Over the week think about these questions while in school, practice, home, or interacting with friends. Then give a reflection on the 5 questions, and then rate your level of communication. Tell us how you could improve your communication using the five questions above. For your response to your peers include comments about what they do well of the 5 questions and also one area that you think they could improve on and why. Remember we are giving constructive criticism so our comments are not mean, hurtful, or rude. This is a day that I will always remember it was my first year of teaching and I walked into my classroom and the news was on, I just stopped and watch unable to really understand what was happening. I lived 5 hours from my family and with no cell phone had to wait until the end of the day to call and tell them that I loved them. The thing I remember about this day is the sadness felt by everyone including my freshman students who often live in their world without thinking about others. The school day was filled with TV's and no lectures or book work, just a day of watching and disbelief.
The change from then to now, is the that I have made family a very important part of my life and have moved back home to be closer to them. I also have taken a great interest in the welfare of our country and politics. I think that day has changed almost everyone's life in one way or another. I can't pretend to understand what those who lived through the day or who lost those they loved in the day experienced, but I know that when I hear or see things about 9/11 I am always tear-eyed and heartbroken for everyone. Now 9/11 has a different meaning for me as well, in 2009 I was blessed with my 2nd child on this day. When she came at first I was sad that she was having her birthday on the saddest day ever, but now I realize that 9/11 had many miracles and joys and she is mine. We are lucky to have such a beautiful little girl who loves everyone and maybe some day can be a hero to someone in remembrance of the special day she came into the world on. Video 1 Where were you? On September 11, 2011 we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of a major United States tragedy, and for some this will be a day they lost everything and for others a day they realized everything. All though you were possible 4 or 5 this was a day that needs to be remembered and taught about in the history of our country.
In the blog for this week I want you to reflect on what you can remember about that day or what your parents remember about that day. Then reflect on what the day has done for the USA and your family, have things changed from 2001 to 2011 and also reflect on what you think about this day and its personal significances to you or others. I want honesty but respect for others feelings as well. Your initial response should be 200 words. I am not requiring a peer response this week, but if you read another students post and feel there is something you want to post in a reflection for that student you can earn extra credit points for your reflections. Using a search engine locate a website that talks about the history of the computer. Read the site and write a 150 word summary of the information in that site. Also include if you think that the site gives you reliable information and if you would recommend someone doing research on computers to use this site. In your response first provide the URL for that site, then your summary.
For your reply to other students pick 2 students that have different sites and read their sites and then give one interesting fact that you learned from that site. Also tell them if you agree or disagree with their opinion on the site being reliable and why. The first comment under this post will be an example of a response, you CANNOT use the same website or reply to my Example. |
