How do you feel about DQ's?
Answer this question with a reflection about what you are learning, experiencing, enjoying, and hating about DQ's. I want you to be honest but tact is important. Also include if you think we should continue with DQ's, even provide alternate ways to have these discussions. Because this is personal and I want full effort you will not respond to other students and must write 100 + words to get credit.

What do I think about DQs???? Hmmm I think that there pretty easy but some have been difficult to explain. I usually try and do them and get them done but sometimes I don’t even think about it. I don’t think about them because I’m trying to keep up with all of my other classes. I really don’t mind them but I just have trouble reminding myself to do them. In my opinion we should have them but not has a homework thing but more like an extra credit thing. So I think we should have the choice to do them. I personally would do them at least once in a while but I just think its hard doing them every week and making it like a homework assignment. I do have to say I do like doing them. Some of them are really interesting and it’s kind of fun to read what other people have to say about the topic you choose. Also maybe you should let students pick the topics once in a while. Like we write down what we would like the topic to be and we turn what we think it should be. Then you choose what topic you think is a good one for the week. I think we should keep the DQs but not have them every week or just have them as extra credit. I like doing them I just never remember to do them because I’m trying to keep caught up in all my other classes which I have troubles with already. This is my very long opinion on what I think about the DQs it more than likely makes no scense what so ever though, but I did try and give my opinion on what I think about them. Even though others will have their own opinion and may not agree fully with mine. So this is all I got to say about them. Have a great week =)

DQ’s can be difficult for me sometimes because it is hard to do in a week when you have lots of other things to do and you don’t have time do the DQ. I really don’t care doing them but like what Kelli said that we should do them for extra credit, and not for a homework assignment. I think that would help our class because you know that all of us are struggling in your class. But that’s just me; I don’t know what other people will say on this DQ. But other than that DQ’s can be alright.

I think DQ's are alright. I don't really mind doing them very much. But you know how we have to comment on other classmates' DQ's? I think that a lot of us don't even read the whole thing. I have gotten comments that just had to do with the first couple lines of mine. I think we can make our comments a little more detailed than just, "I agree with you 100%. Good post."

What do I think about DQ’s… Well I personally do not like DQ’s at all. The reason I do not like them is because ever since we started them my grade has dropped tremendously. I don’t think they have benefited me in any way at all. I haven’t used anything from the DQ’s. They are an easy thing to do, but I always forget. I also hate all the detentions. I understand that if I would do the DQ I wouldn’t have detentions, but I am a very forgetful person. I don’t think that we should have to do DQ’s because I have noticed that since we have started them, more people have lunch detentions, and also more people’s grades have dropped in this class. If the DQ was something useful and something that I could learn from, I think that it would be better. But to me I don’t like it because it has dropped my grade and there is no point to it.

Hmm.. What do I think about the DQs? Personally I don’t like them. I wouldn’t mind if they weren’t on the computer. I live out of town and I don’t have internet. Also during the week I am swamped with all kinds of other classes. Maybe you could have them up front on Mondays and they have to be turned in by Friday? You could have a drop box with Dell so if you weren’t there then we could still give them on time. Its hard for me to get onto a computer at the school and do the DQ. Especially since we are doing a lot of assignments, or notes, or lectures in other classes and don’t have any free time.

I like DQ’s because they help your grade and they are not even that hard to do. I think that we should keep on doing DQ’s because they are a good way to find out things and make you learn. I think when we do DQ’s we should keep doing what Mrs. Miller does every week by posting them on her website. I don’t think we should do it any other way we just keep doing it how we do DQ’s. I enjoy these DQ’s we have been doing in the past and I'm learning more about thinks that I wouldn’t have looked up on my own time so it is a learning process that we should keep doing.

Harley and Alex - you shouldn't be doing the DQ for this week while you are doing Lunch Detention.

I think that the Discussion Questions are well worth the time. Like you said, it only takes max 15 minutes, and for kids that are struggling with their grades in Business Communications these should be easy points for people to get, all you have to do is find the time within a week period and write about the subject that you, Mrs. Miller, has written. This is one of the easiest assignments we get, and although it seems like a pain, “Ugh, I have to remember to do my Discussion Question today since I have been putting it off...” When you stop and think about it, this is something that can TRULY be in OUR favor. Thinking about it, WE only spend 15 minutes whenever we want throughout the week to do something as simple as write a little thing on the internet, Mrs. Miller has to read them all, and WE get points for it! Instead of Discussion Questions we could have an added assignment during the week in the books before we do our projects, do any of us want that? I personal would say no. I think this is a very easy and good way for us to voice our opinions, if we get an alternative it probably won’t be as easy and worth as much points for the little time we have to put forth. This is obviously just my opinion, but I like having Discussion Questions.

I don’t think we should continue with the DQ’s. I personally think that they can be difficult especially if you are busy with other homework and trying to complete what ever chapter or project we are on. But I also think that us especially as teens remember for a little bit and then tend to forget, and don’t remember until its too late and we have detention. The last few have been hard in my opinion. In that we have to find articles about certain things and then say how it relates to class. But it is not always the simplest thing to find articles for example high expectations in teens. I personally don’t like DQ’s. I would like it a lot if we didn’t have to do it anymore.

McKenzie you are correct about looking at other options for the assignments, I am sure they would be more time consuming and would also require more thoughtful answers then required by the DQ. My overall meaning of the DQ was not to help with grades or to hurt grades, but give students a way to experience the world outside of Pomeroy using a new and interesting tool to learn.

I think that DQ’s are affective. I like them a lot. I think they get the point across without being overstated.

My honest opinion about DQ’s are they are okay but some days I would rather just not do them. I think they provide great discussions and teach us about communication skills. They could help us in the future like when we apply for a job or apply for a college application. Sometimes I just don’t want to even worry about it. Sometimes I get so busy during the week with other classes and even this class so I it is kind of a hassle. I think we should keep the DQ’s because they help students learn about various skills and replying to others politely. That is what I think about the DQ’s.

Mackie and Cody - glad that you were honest that sometimes it is hard, but that you see there is a point behind them. I also appreciate that no matter what else you have on your plate you are still responsible enough to get the DQ done for the week.

I really like the discussion questions. They give me a way to express my thoughts and feelings. I also like to read what others have written, and telling them what I think. The best part I think is replying to other peoples posts. I always read what others say about what I wrote. I really enjoy working on DQ’s because it lets me express my writing talent. I really enjoy writhing and have a ton of fun writing, plus, I get 100% every week on it and I think that it is helping to raise my grade. They are a bit of bother, especially since the Internet is super slow at my house. But all in all, I really enjoy DQ’s.

Esther glad that you are enjoying the DQ's, I do like to read the posts as well. I enjoy hearing what other people see as important and good but I also enjoy hearing from my shy students.

I think DQ’s are good and bad. I don’t mind them really; here are a few reasons why they are good. When I’m home alone I have something to do for school so I’m not wasting time which is nice. They give me a chance to interact with students who I don’t usually talk to! And finally they give me a way to tell the teacher my options on certain matters. However, DQ’s can be hard to explain , as in getting your thoughts onto the paper. A few bad things about DQ’s are they can be a hassle if I’ve had a long week and I think oh I still have to DQ, so that can be stressful sometimes. I think we should continue DQ’s because they are a good way for students to express themselves to each other and to the teacher. Overall DQ’s are all right!

How do I feel about DQ’s? I kind of like them. It is good to try to get kids to spend time actually thinking about something. The only thing I don’t like is that we only have a week to do them. If there was more time then everyone might be able to get them done. Then again, that might defeat the purpose of assigning them. Well, another thing I don’t like is that they can take forever. Especially with kids that do sports. If you do a sport then you get home and you have a lot of homework then you are less likely to do the DQ. I don’t have troubles with doing them unless I forget. I really hate lunch detention though. So it can be a pain trying to remember them.

I enjoy writing DQ’s immensely. They help my grade, and I think that they are great. I have always loved blogging, and I think that this is an ingenious way to get kids to do some homework. I definitely think that we should continue to have DQ’s. I think that it is also a good way to have students communicate with each other, because they are providing honest, but nice, constructive criticism. It is also a great way to learn about different things, as we have to look the chosen topic up, and write about it and how we feel about it. I think that it not only helps our communication skills, but our language and English skills as well. The past topics that we have had have been great, and I learn something new each time. I particular like this topic, because it is asking what we think of something, without having to look it up.

I personally don’t mind the DQs. They make us have to think about what we have learned the past week. But at the same time I don’t like them because I sometimes don’t remember to do them till the end of the week since I’m studying for other tests and other subjects. I’ve learned a lot from doing these though. I learned about responsibility, about pushing your kids to have decent goals, and many other things. I really like being pushed to think for myself and when you have some expectations of me. Knowing that you expect good grades or a good job on a report from me I push myself to do my very best and work hard at what I do. I think we should keep them so that kids are learning responsibility and to think for themselves instead of having teachers think for us. I love learning and then being able to put the things we learned at school to use after school.

I really don't mind doing DQ's. I think that they will help us do better at our typing. I always make time to do DQ's just because they are a huge part of my grade and its an easy way to get a good grade. Plus typing DQ's help me a lot with my typing. I think that DQ's are a huge part of responsibility because you have to remember to do them every week and to do them right. I think that DQ's are a good way to communicate with one another because it teaches us communication. I think that we should continue doing DQ's every week because it helps us a lot for this class, well for people who do them every week. And for people who don't do them then it teaches them that if you don't do what your told then you don't get to succeed in life. All in all i think that DQ's are a good thing! :)

HOW DO I FEEL ABOUT DQ? I don't mind them to much. They are easy points but sometimes its hard to do with all the stuff I do with sports and church. I can't do them in class unless I get my stuff done but most of the time I have assignments to do. I also think they are go to get us ready for the adult world. With all things put together I have mixed feelings about DQs. Oh another thing is that sometimes they just get in the way of things I do because I remember in the last second. The point being is that I almost always have something going on Wednesday-Friday and I'm up late and its hard to do it when I'm super tired.

What do I think about DQ’s? Well, I think that they are pretty good. They help a lot of people with their typing skills and are fairly easy to get a good grade on. They usually are pretty short and don’t take a lot of time. And with Mrs. Miller in her classroom all day, even a person like me who doesn’t have Internet at home can do them before they are actually due. So, now that I’ve put down the good part about DQ’s, the only things I don’t like about DQ’s are that again I don’t have internet so I cant do it anywhere else but at school so that is kind of a hassle. And, I don’t always know what to say about them or to my classmates. But, overall I like the DQ’s and think they are a great helper to out typing skills and teach us to have effective writing.

I’ve learned many things while writing DQs. One of the most important would be others opinion. We never really hear what most have to say and what they think but DQs give us a chance to demonstrate this. I’ve experienced an opportunity to think on my own and give an opinion on what I think. That is also what I enjoy about DQs. I like to have my voice be heard and be understood. The one thing I hate about DQs is sometime I can’t submit on time for some reason or just plain forget about it. I think maybe we should just have class discussions about these subjects. Have us research a subject on our own time and voice an opinion during a time in class. I think that would be easier for some and more enjoyable. That is my opinion on DQs.

I honestly think that the discussion questions are a waste of time. I think that the discussion questions are not actually improving our typing skill because we do it on our own and I think that people do not actually try improving there typing with the discussion questions. I also think that the most of the discussion questions are pointless because I don’t learn anything from it. I also have a hard time finding time to complete these discussion questions because I ride the bud and often do not have the time. This is what I think about discussion questions. 4/1/2011 04:43:20 pm

Taylor Prince - at least you did it, and glad you have no dislikes about DQing. Wyatt I am sorry to hear that you have learned nothing doing the DQs, I would like to have heard how you would learn the material in a different manner. Tori you did a great job but you haven't learnt anything you have learned. Haley thanks for pointing out the fact that even a student without Internet can still participate. Kelcey you are one of the students that I love to read DQs from, because you are a shy student who doesn't speak up so to hear your opinion is nice and you seem comfortable writing your thoughts down. Carol your idea about a class discussion about the topic and then opinions on the DQ is a great idea. Torrie is nice to know that you have interaction with different students when using the DQ so that is a nice extra. David, as a former coach I will say one thing, you are a STUDENT-athlete not an athlete first. Sports is never an excuse to use with me, because I know that all of your coaches will put school work in first priority if I need to ask them. Katlyn glad you pointed out the responsibility factor in the DQ, I find it amazing how many of you have complained about 1 homework assignment a week from this class. How many homework assignments do you have a week in other classes? Connie thanks for pointing out that those not doing DQ's are learning something as well. Carol you are also a shy student who doesn't voice opinions in class and I always loved to read what you are thinking, so thanks for putting the effort into your work. Wyatt, so you are saying that because no one is watching you do it wrong (the typing part) is that a good thought process to have in life? Maybe effort on your end can have results you never dreamed. Shelby you mentioned being busy Wednesday-Friday, I always put a DQ up on Monday so you have Monday and Tuesday to complete, also I am going to start getting them done on Sunday when possible.
