"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will."
Vincent T. Lombardi What do you think of when you hear the word success? What do you want to be successful at in your life? How many of you feel that you are successful in your role as a student? Why or why not? Pick one successful person that you know and list the qualities that you think have made them successful. Finally – find a quote on-line that best describes what you think of success, copy and paste the quote being sure to include who said it. Make sure to comment to two students.

Devon, I agree with everything you said. It was very well put together. I believe that we should all have a relatively close understanding of the word success. You’re definition and mine were close in the essence of us thinking about success as a thing we strive for.

Devon, I agree with your definition of success, because success is accomplishing something. I disagree on the fact that you say it has to be correct to be successful. Something that you do could not have been done correctly, but still get done successfully. I loved your quote.

Devon, I agree with your definition of success. I can tell that you put together a lot of hard work to come up with your excellent paragraph. Also I believe you will be successful in your future life if you continue to work the way you do. Winston Churchill is a very inspiring person and I am glad you decided to use one of his quotes.

Devon, I like your response to this DQ. It was very well written and I can tell you really took your time doing it. I also really like your quote. That you should continue trying to improve whether you win or lose and it really does not matter in the long run.

When I hear the word success, I think of all the things I can do successfully and all the things that I wish I could do successfully. I want to be successful somewhere in the computer world. Whether it be in the gaming industry or in the computer security area. These both appeal to me very much. I feel I am successful as a student, I perform the tasks asked as well as I can. I also listen carefully. I feel there are areas where I can improve but I am confident in being a good student. Ed Prevost, I chose him because he is successful in one of the careers that I want to do. He has been doing what he is doing now since he was 8 years old. I want to be able to perform my job as well as he does. From what I can tell he does his job efficiently and accurately. That is something I hope everyone in a line of work strives for. This is most certainly something I will strive for in the line of work.

Chance, I agree with everything you have stated and I really like your quote by Arnold Schwarzenegger. I agree that you are a good student because you are also in the honor classes that I am in and you have a good work ethic. Also I think you will be really successful in the computer industry because you are really good with computers and you typing speed is probably the fastest in the class. Finally I agree with your person that is successful because he has done it for a long time and he knows everything in this industry very well. He is also a very good teacher in my opinion because he has taught me so far this week in a way I can easily comprehend and understand.

Chance, I believe that following the career pathway you said is a very good choice for you. I think that because you can work really well with computers and seems like you have funning doing so. I also like the fact that you chose Ed Prevost as an inspiring person. He is very inspiring to me as well.

Chance, no offence to Arnald Schwazenegger but I don’t like his quote. Seth Godin once said “He who fails the most wins”. What he means by that is that if you are trying new stuff and constantly striving to make yourself better you are going to fail … a lot. Now yes, it is possible to succeed and never fail but you’re not going to push yourself to “win.” Also failure is an option; our own history is proof of this. Tomas Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts before making a successful light bulb.(FYI Tomas Edison wasn’t the original inventor of the light bulb Click Here ).

What do I think when I hear the word success? I think success means to do something and achieve at it. For example if you set your mind on passing a test in school and you do so, I think that is success. In life I want to be successful at my job and as a man of my house. I think to do so, I have to make enough money to support myself and my family and also live comfortable not having to worry about little things. I think I am successful in my role as a student because I am passing all my classes and keeping eligible to do the thing I love, sports. Also I think I am a great kid that teachers enjoying having. I finish all my assignments on time and never have to be reminded to do them. One successful person I know is my uncle Mike. I think he is successful because he went to trucking school and passed and 2 years later after working hard he became the best trucker for his company. Now he runs and owns his own trucking business and is doing very well with it. I think the qualities that made him very successful are that he worked very hard on his books and also translated that to the road. He became very responsible as well because you can’t have any job without ha

Oscar, I agree with your reply to this DQ. Your example was great for success. I also believe if you believe you self you will pass the test and you have studied then you will do so. I also agree with your statement of being a successful student because as I said to Chance you are in Geometry and did not quite make Honors English. I understand why you are not in this honors class because Spanish is your first language and you took on English at a young age and you are now very fluent in it. To me this feat makes you a successful person. I also agree with your successful person because as you said he worked hard in getting this job and by going to school for two years and he know owns his own firm which shows he is successful and can afford to run it and still have and income after paying employees. Your quote by David Brinkley is also great!

Oscar, I agree with a lot of what you said. Your quote is one I've heard and like. It inspires me. I also think its good that you want to a job such as being a trucker. It's not everyone's first choice. We need them and its good you want to be one.

Oscar I agree with your definition of success. I also like the fact that being a man of a home or that passing a test is success. But, even if you don't pass that test and you tried your hardest it is still a success. Even if you don't become the man of the house, its still a success that you grew up to be a man.

Oscar, i believe that you are correct in this D.Q., too many people place too much value on money, and not enough about being generally happy in terms of what you do, and who your with, and doing what makes you feel that you are a success, instead of bragging about checks.

When I think of success I think of business men that have developed very profitable companies such as Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg. There are many things I want to be successful at during my life but the top 3 I think would be in my education, occupation, and family. I think that I am successful in my role as a student because every day I try my best in class and on my homework even with how chaotic my live has been lately. Also I am in 3 upper level classes including Honors English, Geometry, and Accounting. Some one that I think is successful is my dad. I think that he is successful because he works about 10 hours a day, does something if he sees it needs to get done, and is always reading or learning something new. A quote about success that I found was “The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” by Vince Lombardi. I think that this is a good quote because it says basically how to be successful in life it to do your best in everything you do.

Spencer, i disagree with you're statement about success, just because somebody is not a business man does not mean that he is not successful, its possible for a store clerk to be successful, as long as they enjoy what they are doing, when they enjoy being there, and can support themselves, and any others that depend on them.

When I hear the word success I think of someone that had a dream, or wanted to pursue something and they did it. I think of someone who accomplished what they wanted to do. In my life I want to a successful Pediatrician, and a successful business owner. I want to own my own bakery. I want to be able to successfully take care of my kids. I also want to be successful in helping my kids to want to be successful. I feel that I am successful in my role as a student because I am very respectful to the staff, and I make very good grades. I even brought my grade from a D+ to a C- to a Bin one of my biggest classes. I may not be #1 in the class but I still work really hard to be successful in school. To me my cousin is a successful person in my life because she graduated high school and became a CNA even though everyone in our family thought that she wouldn’t be successful. My quote is, “Success seems to be connected to action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.” – Conrad Hilton.

Stacy, I agree with you 100%; when you said that it's someone that had a dream or wanted to pursue something and they did it. In my opinion we need to work hard and stay strong for what we need in life; I know there will be downs but by us working hard we can bring it back up. Like how Isaac Newton was accused of things he did it did not stop him from finishing what he started and loved to do as a person. People need to understand that we can accomplish things even though it's doubtful but they can get it done.

Stacy I agree with you on what you think success is and I hope you become a pediatrician but the thing I agree with you most is about being a successful parent. Without our parents and friend’s encouragement we wouldn’t be where we are today. You wouldn’t have raised you grade and you cousin wouldn’t have become a CNA, even though you all thought she would not be successful.

My thinking of be successful when I hear it is that you need to have a good attitude, work ethic, and a willingness to accomplish things that could be hard or could be easy. Either way it takes all of those traits to be successful. In my life I want to become a successful Veterinarian Technician. Yes it does include computers in that job. As a student I am successful by having a good work ethic and a willingness to try things out of my comfort zone. If I did not do those things I would not be able to have a successful job to go. A person who I think is successful is my Uncle Logan even though he has Lyme Disease, he is recovering with a great comeback to this Disease and he is a very successful man to be able to those tests, doing work outs, and having successful fundraisers for the cure to help.

Ashton, I like that your idea of success is very different than mine. I think you had a good answer, and it is interesting to see how different some people's ideas are about similar topics. The quote you chose matches you idea of success very well, but would not work as well for my response. I think that is pretty interesting.

When I hear the word success I think of famous people who have made a lot of money by working hard or just ordinary people who have achieved all their goals in life. In my life I want to be successful at anything and everything I do. I feel that I am successful as a student because I have mostly A’s and I am close to the top in most of my classes.

Hogan I agree with the part when you said that when you think of success you think of famous people who have made a lot of money by working hard or just ordinary people who have achieved all their goals in life. I also think that if you can create all of your goals and then achieve them all then you would have been very successful in life. I also said just like you did that I want to be successful in any and everything that I do.

Hogan, I agree with you about what you had about people who are successful. I think that we had the same perspective as to who is considered a successful person. I like your perspective and how you described what success is.

What I think of when I hear the word success is how much success I have had so far in my life. I think about what I could do different in my life to give me more success and a better life when I graduate from high school. I would like to be successful in everything that I do in my lifetime. Some things that I want to be successful in high school are, Golf, I want to win a state championship. Basketball, my goal is to get another state championship when I am a main part of the team. I feel that I am a successful student because I work as hard as I can. I turn in all of my assignments and do average on my tests and quizzes. Dale Earnhardt was the successful person that I have chosen. He was successful because he worked at what he loved to do which allowed him to become one of the greatest drivers ever. He won 7 championships, one of the only two drivers to do that. He won 76 races. His style of racing was innovative for the time, and that made a lot of fans love to hate him.

Jacob I disagree with you because I think that success has more things to do with working hard at anything not just sports. You made success all about sports, and I think that you should have put more detail into people who provide for their families and work hard at their jobs. Don’t get me wrong though, I think that sports are a good example of success but I still believe that you shouldn’t have based your whole DQ on sports and opened the topic a little more.

When I hear the word success I think of my brothers. My brothers are my largest role models besides my dad. They, yes, have successful careers, but they also have lives that are on the right track, and I want my life to be like theirs. One of my brothers is married and has a beautiful daughter, and the other is in a serious relationship with his girlfriend.

Nolan I strongly agree with the part when you said “I also learn a thing or two about the law”, I think that you have learned and actually our class has learned a lot about the law. Another thing that I agree with is when you said “and most of all I make mistakes, that are my greatest teacher”. I think that mistakes are a really great teacher.

When I hear the word success, the first thing that comes to my mind would have to be someone who works really hard to do something that they have dreamed of and or been asked to do, then doing it to the best of their ability. Something that I want to be successful in my life would be writing and hopefully getting a good career in journalism or another job that has to do with writing. I would also love to have one or more books that are published and end up having some sort of recollection for my work. Well I cant just think of one person, but I can think of two people that I see as successful, which would be my grandparents. Both of them have gone through so much and worked extremely hard to get to where they are now. Both of them were and still are very determined to provide for their family. They are not rich, but they do work hard and never stop so that in my opinion is success.
Tabitha McCoard
12/12/2014 08:09:50 am
I agree with you Mahala. I think that if you work hard enough success will find you and that never giving up on your dream even when you fail is a success, but if you never give up on one thing and it’s the wrong thing then you may never be successful. Everyone should look to be successful at what ever they do no matter how big or small or inconvenient it is.
Tabitha McCoard

I think of family and money when I think of success. If you are successful in a job then you usually have a lot of money. I think of family because without family you have nothing and having nothing is not successful.
Brandon
12/12/2014 11:16:52 am
When I hear the word success, I think of accomplishing a goal. The goal could be anything, from something small like getting a question right, to something big like winning a contest. I want to be successful in school by getting good grades, and I want to be a successful video game designer when I grow up. I feel I am successful as a student because I enjoy school and have A's in all of my classes. I also learn a lot in each of my classes. One successful person I know is Mr. Lamunyan. I think he is successful because he is both the principal and superintendent. Qualities that made him successful include pride, honesty, strictness, and fairness. Pride helps make you work hard on what you do, and honesty helps make people trust you. Strictness makes people listen to you and do what you say. Fairness helps you make decisions and help other people. One quote about success I found was from Vince Lombardi: "The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand." I think this describes success because it describes working hard to complete a task.

To me, success means that you are happy with the actions you have taken in life, and are able to say that you enjoy what you do, and the people you do it with. In my life i want to be a successful programmer, so that i can give back to the community that has entertained me to no end, and i want to prove that i can do it and be successful at it. I feel that i am successful in my role as a student because i can memorize the information that i need, and feed my will to do so by telling myself that it is all needed for the future, for backup if nothing else. Gabe Newell is someone that i consider successful, because he was able to make his dreams realized by taking gaming to the computer. “The first step toward success is taken when you refuse to be a captive of the environment in which you first find yourself.” Comments are closed.
