This week is Computer Science Education week and we will be working with Mr. Prevost to learn more about coding using code.org. I have attached a few articles about Computer Science to the Google Classroom be sure to read them to help with answering the following questions.
What is Computer Science? Why study Computer Science? By the year 2020 how many million jobs will be in computing? Currently how many high schools in the nation are teaching computer science courses? What are the seven big ideas at the core of computer science? What are some careers in computer science industry? Do any of these interest you? Pick one of these careers to do more research on – tell us about that career – including job description, pay, hours, work environment, education required, and anything interesting about this career. Find an article and give a 2-3 paragraph recap on the article and how it has changed your thoughts about why computer science is important to everyone. Add a link to the article for others to read. Then give me your opinion on computer science and what you have experienced this week. Respond to two different students with 3 or more things you learned about either their career they explained or from the article that they selected.

Alex, I learned so much from your research on a Dental Assistant. For starters I had no idea that they would even need to know so much about computers and how they work. I also learned the range of pay for a Dental Assistant by reading your DQ. I lastly learned that you don't need any specific educational requirements to be a Dental Assistant

Computer science is using computational and critical thinking skills to not only use, but create new technologies. People study this because it not only teaches how to code, but learning how computers work and to think more logically. It also opens up doors to high – demand jobs. By 2020 4.6 million of 9.2 million science, engineering, technology, and math jobs will be in computing. Right now, only about 27 states allow a computer science course. Computer science develops students’ computational and critical thinking skills and shows them how to create, not simply use, new technologies. Computer education encompasses the study of computers and algorithmic processes, including their principals. They predict a short fall of 1.5 million by 2018. 70% percent are teaching computer science.1: Algorithmic problem solving, 2: Computing and data analysis, 3: Human- computer interaction, 4: Creating and manipulating graphics, 5: Programming, 6: Security, 7: Robotics, 8: Web design. Retail, Weather, Arts, Healthcare, Financial services, Manufacturing. Robotics is the one that I am interested in. Some of your daily job duties might include debugging computer programs used to run robotics systems, supervising engineering technicians, processing sensor data, calibrating robots or approving robot designs. You may also be responsible for investigating mechanical failures, performing maintenance, designing robotic systems or creating backup programs for robotic systems. Your specific duties might vary depending upon the industry in which you specialize. For example, if you specialize in the agricultural industry, you might design and test robotic crop harvesters, while if you specialize in the nuclear power industry, you might work on automated equipment to test safety in power plants. top-paid professionals in this field bringing home upwards of $123,340 annually.Electronics engineers earned a median annual salary of about $94,250 per year; top-paid engineers in this specialty made $144,760 a year or more. Computer science makes people’s lives much easier and helps them in their work.

Sierra, a digital artist sounds like a fun career. I didn't realize that a digital artist could draw or create sculptures. I thought that they would do something along the lines of taking pictures or something to that extent! I also didn't know that this career was based around computer science. Computer science is used in so many different ways apparently! I didn't realize that you could be a digital artist without going to school! To me, this job sounds like it would require lots of studying especially since you're dealing with computers.

Avery, one thing I learned was that a Network Manager gets $79,000-$120,000 a year, depending on the company and time spent. I also didn’t know that Network Managing can be done at home as a job. The last thing I learned was that the most schooling could be multiple PHD. in computer sciences and tech engineering.

Avery, I have never really read about a Network Manage. And I did not now that they go so much money 79,000-120,000 a year. They work an 80 to 45 hours a week. This is a very good field for you’re to do one day Avery. And you would be good at organizing and responsibility of the networks.

I learned a lot from your article Sydney like the top ten reasons to do computer science, they are all true like the first one on how computers involve everything we do that is really true. Then the second one about computers helping us with problem solving some people might not think that is true but it is like on word passed the certification test by problem solving. Also the one about computers giving us great opportunities which is also true because we can sign up for things on the internet. i think the last one is also true because we have come this far why not go a little farther then even more farther and just keep going.

Computer science develops students’ computational and critical thinking skills and shows them how to create, not simply use, new technologies. You should study computer science so you can be more knowledgeable about computers. Most jobs use computers. By 2020 4.6 million jobs will be computing. Currently only one in four high schools in the nation offer a computer science class. The seven big ideas at the core of computer science are creativity, abstraction, data, algorithms, programming, internet, and impact. Some careers in computer science industry are health care, retail, weather forecasting, arts, and financial services. A computer science job that interests me is an elementary teacher. When you are an elementary teacher some things you do are create instructional resources for use in the classroom, plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities and maintain gradebooks. The average yearly pay is $53,590. You have to have a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Also license or certification, and internship or training may be necessary.

Computer science is the study of the use and properties of a computer. You should study computer science because it is an essential skill in our modern world today. It is the study of design, development and analysis of software and hardware use to help solve issues in different business, scientific and social contexts. For everything we do we use computers, and with computers there will always be a problem to solve these issues we would need people educated in these fields. There are also endless opportunities with computing so this is provides constant job growth to be filled. They are also going to be available anywhere you live. In the year 2020 there will be 4.6 million computing jobs according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Currently nationwide one 1 out of 4 high schools teach computer science. There are seven big ideas to computer science:

Makayla, I didn’t know that an application architect did so much for their job. I think it is neat that you chose a unique career to research. There is a few college degrees that you need that some jobs don’t require but this one does. It is weird an application architect provides design and code reviews because I thought it would be more like an architect.

Hally I think Web Design sounds fun and interesting with the knowledge about being able to make Websites and that you can interact with someone else during your work day. Also when you said that you can be a distraction to all og the employments with playing games or nothing to even do with work. I thought that was pretty cool.

Computer science is one of the most needed jobs in the US. Computer science is about solving problems I think we should have computer science in school because it will prepare kids for the future. This is a good idea because soon every thing will be based around computers so I think you should no a little bit about how they work how they run and how you can fix it. By around 2020 there will be around 4.6 million jobs in computing or computer science. Only 1 in 4 schools are teaching computer science this could change in the future.

I learned a lot from your article Wyatt like how many jobs that I am even the slightest bit interested in. I also learned how much work it takes to do computer science and be successful at it. Then it is also not even just about computers you can learn a lot from it like problem solving skills. Then you can also work with a team which will also help in the future.

Computer science is basicaly solving problems to help companys or people, or creating and maniplating graphix. Or programing and security. It is good to study computer science because in this day in age youre going to want to know as much about conputers ans possible, you will also need to be able to create thing with your computer. 4.6 million data savy workers. There are 10,000. Hacker game creator, grafix manager, and many more. None of these careeres interest me I do not like computer science or functions. There isnt much interesting about hacking eccept that you hack thing to help big companies that everyone knows. 50 bucks an hour is what you can be paid mabey more maybey not. But one cool thng is, is that you can work from home. Youre work environment is your home or even on the go wherever you would like to go. You don’t even need a degree or any college years to become a hacker.
