One of the class assignments that you will complete each week is a reply to the DQ for that week and graded on effort, spelling, grammar, and answering of the questions. You can earn 20 points - 10 points for initial response and 5 for each peer feedback. You have until 11:59pm every Friday to complete the DQ and any alternate posts required. For this week due 9/9 @ 11:59pm (no peer feedback)- Tell me who you are, what you want to learn in Digitools, how you think your typing speed is compared the average speed for your grade level(45wpm), and how you think you will learn best in this class. Tell me what you are most worried about for this class, and ways you are going to make sure you are successful in D9. I will be sending you questions via email in regards to your DQ#15 and you will earn points for your responses to me. I will also be sending you emails of comments from students about your DQ and you will need to "Reply to All' and defend your position on the comment. If you receive an email from me with one of your comments when the student responds to that email you can comment back but make sure that it is done with a "Reply All" so I see messages. Each message will count as 5 points and your grade will be based upon the % of answers you respond to.
If you have questions come and see me. Your DQ is to write a review about Career Day. State the pros, cons, what could be done better, what needs to stay the same etc. Your post must also include the three speakers you visited and things that your learned along with if you are thinking about that career as an option for your future.
Please make your post at least 200 words and proof read before you post. Your responses to other students must follow this guideline: 1 - to someone about a career you didn't see asking them at least one question about the speaker. 2 - to someone about a career you did see stating something else you learned or your opinion about that speaker. Please find and read a news or opinion article on High Expectations for Teens
Post a reply below with the following information:
You will need to then respond to two students about their article (agree/disagree) and make sure they haven't read the same article as you. You are currently working on PowerPoint and learning how to make them effective is as important as being able to use the program to successfully make them.
To help you get started on thinking and preparing the best presentation open and view 3 of the following presentations: Tips for Effective Presentations Breaking a Presentation Rules Extreme Presentation Makeover Don't be a PowerPoint Felon Ideas on How to Create a Powerful Presentation How to make effective presentations Effective Communication with PowerPoint How to Visual Effects of PowerPoint Dodging Bullets in Presentations You suck at PowerPoint After watching the slideshows respond to the following questions: 1. The three slides show names that I watched were: 2. In the slide shows the elements that I would like to use in my own presentations are: 3. Name three things that you learned from these PowerPoint’s and why you will use those things to create the best PowerPoint presentation. For responding to (two) other students: (1) watch one of their slideshows (must be different then what you picked in your post) (2) respond to the above three questions in regards to the PowerPoint that you watched (3) provide the student you are responding to advice on how to make their PowerPoint about Me the best. Computer Science for All!!! Watch the Weekly Address by President Obama and then complete the Discussion Question that follows:
Preconceived ideas about computer science may discourage students, especially women and minorities, from pursuing study in the field. Many of these common, but negative stereotypes are misconceptions. (Glenn D. Blank, Sally Hiestand and Fang Wei, http://www.cse.lehigh.edu/~cimel/papers/sigcse04.pdf) Using the Internet locate five misconceptions about Computer Science, and then tell us why these aren't true. What ways can teachers and students help people understand CS and get over the misconceptions? Locate five things you can learn from Computer Science that will help you in other classes and your future professions. From these 5 things - which do you think is the most important and why? Then locate 1-2 ways a school can incorporate Computer Science into the curriculum. What ways do you think the staff at PSD can incorporate CS into our classes? From President Obama's weekly address what is one thing you learned, one thing you already knew, and one thing you found shocking and why? Answer all questions is a paragraph format. Remember you are being graded on your writing skills along with your ability to complete the assignment. If you are taking any part of work from the Internet you MUST site the source (like I did in paragraph 2.) You can read the material from a website and then put that information into your own words, but you CANNOT use the same wording as the website without including the reference for the author and the website. Any citations will not be counted in your word count. When you are done - read responses from other students and comment on their misconceptions and which of their 5 you find most important and why. Also comment on their 5 things taught and what you find most important and why. Reminder you are to post to 2 students and you must have 50+ words - again be sure to proofread!!! This week is Computer Science Education week and we will be working with Mr. Prevost to learn more about coding using code.org. I have attached a few articles about Computer Science to the Google Classroom be sure to read them to help with answering the following questions.
What is Computer Science? Why study Computer Science? By the year 2020 how many million jobs will be in computing? Currently how many high schools in the nation are teaching computer science courses? What are the seven big ideas at the core of computer science? What are some careers in computer science industry? Do any of these interest you? Pick one of these careers to do more research on – tell us about that career – including job description, pay, hours, work environment, education required, and anything interesting about this career. Find an article and give a 2-3 paragraph recap on the article and how it has changed your thoughts about why computer science is important to everyone. Add a link to the article for others to read. Then give me your opinion on computer science and what you have experienced this week. Respond to two different students with 3 or more things you learned about either their career they explained or from the article that they selected. Using the following websites you must answer the following questions. You will need to search through the sites to get the information. You will need to answer in complete sentences. You will not need to reply to another student.
